Sounds like the other use is actually trying to open it through InDesign. Does the editor have InDesign installed in addition to InCopy?

She does have InDesign installed as well as InCopy, but she is opening through InCopy.

Are you absolutely sure? I’ve never seen that error when opening an INDD file in InCopy?

Is she using file > open or double clicking from File Explorer?

Yes. Also we did a test where she had the document opened in InCopy and would not allow me to open it in InDesign. It has us stumped.

Where is this document saved? Server?

Is it only this document or does it happen with all documents?

Yes document is saved on a server.

The problem is sporadic - can open some with no problem

Could well be a server issue of some sort.

I do have a call into our IT server people now - I know this isn't your territory, but any thoughts on that? permissions perhaps?

That would be a decent guess.

Server does not seem to be the

problem - permissions are correct - we all have read and write permission

Make sure InDesign users have run this patch: InDesign crashes while saving a file on a network drive

Then I'd have the ID users "reboot" the ID files that are giving users problems. (Reboot = Unlink any linked IC stories, delete the stories from the server, save as (the ID file) with new name, re-export stories to IC format on the server.) And then test it out.

The patch is not specifically for that problem having to do w/permissions, but since you're working off the server (normal for the IC/ID workflow), it might fix it.

Again, Mac only issue. If you seeing something similar it’s not related, AFAIK.

I'm having this issue between InDesign Mac (High Sierra) and InCopy Win, both CC 2018.

Somebody could find a fix ?

Thank you for your reply

The issue is that InCopy Win 2018 13.0.1 can't open the files that InDesign CC 13.1 (OS 10.3.2) is working with.
Files are on network server shared via SMB.

After updating to OS 10.3.4 sharing was restored.

This our setup:

InDesign 13.1 on Mac (now OS 10.3.4)

InCopy 13.0.1 on Win 8

File server on RedHat via SMB

Editorial System: News2Page

Oh, and please update InCopy to 13.1 as well. There are some compatibility issues if you don’t.
