"Incopy changes the font" and "How to avoid exporting empty or useless blocks?"

Hello, I'm a graphic designer and I use it to make language versions of annual reports. I export the icml files to the translator and then make the graphic adjustments in Indesign.
Here are some questions that remain a mystery to me:
1- Sometimes the font used is changed on certain word groups when I update the assignments in Indesign.
2- The number of words is important since the price of the translator depends on it. How can I avoid exporting blocks that are "lying around" on my work boards? (I find this counter intuitive as it goes against the experience of managing imports when assembling in Indesign).
3- Because of the graphics and flowcharts, I always have a very high number of icml files (about 400 for example). But there are many empty files. Is there a method to not export empty blocks or to delete these files automatically?

This is not a typical translation workflow. Normally that's done using specialized software and from what I understand, it uses IDML files. That said:

1. Fonts don't just change on their own. Has the translator changed them? Why are you using assignments?

2. You can either delete them before exporting or exporting one story at a time.

3. Same as number 2.

I assume, that the translator works in InCopy? As Bob told you, normally translators work in programs like Trados. Here the xml part in a idml-file is used as a exchange between InDesign and the translation program.

However,
1. This can only happen, if the translator change this in InCopy. A workaround is, to work exactly with styles and when the document is back, have a look a the overrides and delete them.

2. There are different ways to export only those parts, that should be translated. Everything else will be greyed out.

3. There are scripts available, that delete empty files. Otherwise work with layers and export only content, that should be translated. 400 icmls sounds to not linking textframes? It seems that he did not use assignments and therefore no package too.
