Awful auto cropping in lightroom classic

New Here ,
Sep 08, 2025 Sep 08, 2025

So I shot my project in 16:9 as a guide, but I want the full frame in lightroom to work with.

Whenever i scrub through my shots, it automatically crops the image one by one to "as shot" - do I really need to INDIVIDUALLY reset this for EACH shot?

Like holy moly, what an awful feature to begin with. Why wouldn't it do it as a batch when imported? Secondly how do i turn this off. This sort of thing is exactly why a 10 year old version of lightroom is better than the current days.

Select all images, go to Develop, toggle the little switch of the 'Synchronize' button so it becomes 'Auto Sync' and then reset the crop tool on the active image.

I'd say it's a very useful and logical feature. If you set your camera to shoot in 16:9, then Lightroom shows the image the way you shot it. Makes perfect sense. It makes less sense to shoot in 16:9 and then want full size in Lightroom, so you'll have to use a workaround to get there.

Why would it individually update the photo the first time i scroll through though, why not just batch update the photo when imported? It just lags the software for no reason.

It depends on what you use as previews when you import. Lightroom does read the crop settings on import, but you don't see it until Lightroom has built a preview of its own.
