Hi
since years i am using the backup-option offered when closing Lightroom, when not done over a period. this process usually took a few minutes. now, it has become a never ending process (stopped it several times after 1, 3, 5, 7 days). during this time nothing is written to disk; a new backup-folder is created, but then nothing written in it.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out! We are sorry about the trouble with Lightroom Classic. We are here to help!

Could you please share the location of your catalog and the destination where you are saving the catalog backup? Has this catalog been in use with past versions of Lightroom Classic and upgraded over time?

If the catalog is stored on an external drive, please move it to the internal drive or desktop and try launching it from there. Please check here for more help related to Lightroom Classic Catalogs:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/catalog-faq-lightroom.html

You can create a new test catalog and merge the existing one with the new one to avoid broken or damaged databases. Copy the primary catalog or the catalog in question and place it on your computer's desktop.

  • When launching Lightroom Classic, press the Alt (Win) or OPT (macOS).
  • Choose the option to create a new catalog and create a new one on the internal drive.

  • In the new catalog, head to File > Import from Another Catalog, as shown below.

Proceed with merging the corrupted catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog.

For more help via video-based steps, check here. See Merging individual catalogs into a master catalog.

Now, proceed with taking backup of the newly created catalog.

Let us know if this works, and we hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks!

Sameer K

LATEST

hi

thanks for all hints, i tried many things over the last days.
finally turns out:
- i restored earlier backups back to the backup-folder

- once those are there, the backup works again. (and retest: does not work again, if not there)

does that mean, updates are incremental and i do have to keep all previous backups too?

or is their another problem?

thanks again
