OK, so the Third time, my database has corrupted, continually telling me it has to be repaired every time I open LR. This time however I got Adobe to fix the problem, and after an hour or so of moving my Cats around I eventually got LR working again, and I checked the last job I was working on. Great. Until just now I have gone to work on other clients work and disvovered that once again after the cat failure and using the backups, LR chooses to ignore all edits in the DB, and the sidecars, and simply resets every single file back to RAW out of Cam. So why are we bothering to create backups (mine are done daily) if every time we need to use them LR is oblivious the all the thousands of edits we have worked on. THE WHOLE POINT OF A BACKUP IS TO RETAIN ALL THE WORK YOUVE DONE SO YOU CAN RECOVER
Now I have weeks of work to do redoing all the edits I need before I can even continue with my current workload...

And obvously they work for most people, most of the time - or we'd be seeing constant complaints like yours, and we just don't.
So an answer to GoldingD's question will a good way to start unpicking your local problem.

This seems like both a hardware problem and a user error — catalogs should not keep getting corrupted, so it is likely your hard disk is malfunctioning; and because other people don't experience this when restoring backups.
Are you importing photos into the backup catalog? This would explain the lack of edits. If that's not it, please tell us, step-by-step, and in detail, how you create backups and how you use them if a catalog is corrupted.

Actually I alowed Adobe support to access my PC and rcover the DB this time.. and still edits were missing (a lot, not all).
I have been building/installing computers, using Adobe PS, a professional photographer and worked as a web developer/software architect for Blue Chip clients since the 90s, so when I say I have a problem and cant resolve it myself, theres is a problem!!
As a side note I have discovered that a right click menu item I have not really noticed (as I never had a reason to use it) has resolved a number of edits. That being 'Metadata/Read metadata from file'.

This avoids addressing the issues I raised.
Did you perform diagnostic checking on the hard disk?
Did you import photos into the unzipped backup catalog?

Avoiding addressing the issue seems to be what support have done.
So yes, i have checked all HD.s After building/installing/using PCs and macs since they were just beige boxes with HDs staggering MBs in size. I know how to maintain and troubleshoot, i also monitered the temps, the PC ahs four fans. so all diagnostics and hardware checks were done before asking Adobe. However that problem has been overwritten by the release of 13.0.1, which I have jjust had to un-install, and revert back to 13
