Book Module changes not saved

An 2018 problem that seems to have re-emerged.  My most recent Book will no longer save changes to layout; I can change photos in the existing layout but adding pages, changing text fields, etc are lost whenever I leave that book collection.  I have made 24+ books in Lightroom over the years so I know what I am doing, anfd I cannot find a way around this.  I have verified the catalog several times, run the backup so it checks and optimises the catalog, duplicated the book, exported the book as a catalog & verified, tried LR v14.5 and 14.0 but still will not save changes.,  I have created a new, separate book in the same catalog and that is working; only this particular book is the problem.  If I add a blank page it sometimes gives an error "invalid page number position" or "... referenced" so somethings seems corrupted but the calatog verifies fine.  I have gone back to earlier version of the catalog but the only version that works is before I made very significant changes so really isn't much better than redoing the whole book again and doesn't solve the problem.

Running LR Classic 14.5.1 on Win 11 all fully updated.  32GB RAM, 9800X3D and RTX 4070Ti.

Hey, @AtlanOz. Thanks for adding the details.

Try to duplicate your catalog into a new catalog and check how it goes.

1 - Create a new catalog by holding the ALT key at the launch of Lightroom Classic.

2 - Go to File > Import from catalog > target your old catalog. Proceed with merging the previous catalog into the newly made, internal storage-based catalog. For more help via video-based steps, check here. See https://adobe.ly/3NTC9Rv

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Good idea @Sameer K. It took a long time for the large catalog to import but unfortunately it imported the same error; that particular book is still "locked" somehow and I get the "invalid page number" error when I add a blank page.

Any thoughts (other than I try to copy the book nito a new book which the only option I can see)?

Thanks,

AtlanOz

Since the previous post I have tried creating a new book and copying layouts etc across.  Starts out well but very soon it locks, particularly after I copy page layouts.  and then after just pasting layout from a different book all but the title page of the new book was summarily deleted!  I have no idea what caused that but it doesn't give me a lot of confidence to work on the many other books I have planned.
