I can't see HDR results directly (new feature). I can't check the "Preview" box.

Is that LG screen HDR? There are many different LG screens that are all called 'UltraFine', but not all of them are HDR. If the screen is indeed HDR, did you enable that in MacOS? If you did not, then the screen is set to SDR.

It's strange because, on the LG site, there are several very inexpensive HDR screen models, whereas I bought mine via Apple about a year ago at a high price.

HDR is just one feature that makes up the price of a monitor, and probably not the most important one. Your screen is a wide gamut 5K Thunderbolt 3 screen, so it is not surprising that it wasn't so cheap. The specs say it is 500 nits however. I am not sure, but I believe that this is the minimum for HDR and so it should at least give you one stop HDR. I asked this earlier: Did you turn on HDR in MacOS Display settings?

In that Histogram Panel, Just under the graph, on right side, the ! mark in the red circle, Info. What shows up when you click on it?

I believe that red indicator tells you the screen is not HDR.

It says :  "HDR display is currently unavailable. Areas of the photo brighter than SDR will not be displayed accurately."

So from Ref (1), under "System Requirements and Recommendations", a VESA Certified Display HDR level of 1000 or higher is recommend, and Ref (2) is listed as a source for monitors. Is your specific one listed?

You can confirm your current HDR support via test #1 on my site: https://gregbenzphotography.com/hdr/#tests

if that test show 0 headroom, either the monitor lacks support, offers weak HDR but is set too bright to use it, or it has not been enabled in the operating system.

Greg, what might it mean if I'm getting this response to the first test on your page?:  "HDR headroom = ERROR (could not measure stops)"

I'm definitely on a new HDR monitor with HDR enabled in Windows.  And I can clearly see a difference between the SDR and HDR photos on the same page.

Please try the page in Chrome. While I generally assume derived browsers work the same, that doesn't always appear to be the case (I see some errors in the current release of Brave with multiple monitors).

@GioHuntI just updated my page to make the limitations of Brave more clear. If you have multiple monitors, my test will report details on the active display only (the one where you are viewing the page). Chrome, Opera, and Brave all support the test properly with multiple monitors.
