Canon 5D Mark IV and photoshop compatibility

New Here ,
Sep 12, 2016 Sep 12, 2016

Hello,

I've got a couple of questions about the compatibility of the Mark IV raw and Photoshop CC.

I'm currently still using PS CC2014 and its related CR version.

Is it this version compatible with the Mark IV Raw? If not,  is it possible to update only CR and leave PS CC 2014?

Thanks in advance.

My Nirvana world.  You sound like a douchebag.  I choose to use Lightroom and Photoshop because they are the best products in the world for my business.  When you own the market, I feel the company has an obligation to provide users of their product, paying customers with support for a flagship camera.  I don't believe that Adobe gets the camera after release.  I think they work hand in hand with the major manufacturers.  I just would like an estimated date on when I can anticipate compatability

I probably am a ******* to you. Your beliefs about Adobe working hand-in-hand with camera manufacturers is unfounded. If you really use Lightroom and Photoshop because they are the best products in the world (in your opinion), then get used to how the system works. You are just having to wait like every purchaser of a new model has had to wait in the past. It isn't going to change. All the complaining and pouting in the world is only going to make you feel better. So have fun.

I don't feel victimized.  I just think they should have had something ready day one.  And, they could have had it ready if Canon and Adobe wanted to make it happen.  I understand they provide their own software and I will be made aware of the update when it is ready.  I was simply stating my frustration.  I am allowed to do that.

But you have to remember that Canon doesn't care whether or not Adobe can support the camera. It isn't their concern. Why would you expect Canon to go all out spending time and money making new spec's available to Adobe? Specs that could then be leaked. You're just going to have to wait like everyone else who purchases a brand-new model. Good luck.

This is completely unacceptable.  The Canon 5D M3 was Canon's most successful camera launch ever and Adobe isn't ready to go with the 5D M4 RAW files.  I cannot believe I can't view my files and have to use DPP.  Why wasn't this ready to go day one??  You have guys in the field testing the cameras converting to DNG.  Come on guys.  Get your stuff together.

When the 5D M3 was first released, the early buyers had to wait for support just like you are having to wait now. It isn't just the camera maker's file format that needs to be supported. It's every single specific model that Adobe has to create profiles for. If you don't like the way it works then try convincing the camera makers to agree on a common file format for their raw files. That's where the real problem lies.

Agree with the one file format move.  That would sure help the problem.  The Canon 5D M3 was one of the top grossing cameras in the history of digital.  It isn't just another camera for adobe to spec out.  They had users in the field who were contributing and shooting for Canon.  Canon needed to share the specs with Adobe once the camera was ready to be sold.  As I understand it, they were ready to fly with the 1DX Mark II day of.

Communication or any ETA would go a long way.

That's what everyone says every time a new model is released. The only answer that you can rely on is that you will have the update when Adobe is ready to release the update. Remember, this new Canon model isn't the only camera that has to be supported.

Shooting 2 events with the 5D Mark IV tomorrow. Going to record JPEG to the SD and RAW to the CF. Hopefully Adobe surprises me and Lightroom supports the RAW format by Monday, or else I'm just going to have to edit from the JPEGs (Canon Digital Photo Professional isn't working for me so I can't convert to TIFFs). I'd rather edit JPEGs shot on the 5D Mark IV than edit RAW shot on my 6D, which I upgraded from.

Come on Adobe, you can do it

I'm with ya, buddy.  Have two sessions this weekend, and I'll be shooting the Mark IV too instead of my 6D.  Fingers crossed....

Huh? Never heard of that one before. DPP has been stable and well behaved for years, even on Windows. Do you have the most recent version of Canon software? If not, be prepared to enter your camera serial number at the Canon support site to download the latest version and try again.

If you have the new MKIV, it comes with the newest version of Digital Photo Professional 4. Using it to "Batch Process" which converts and saves worked for me to create tifs.

My camera just arrived.  I ordered it at B&H and hoped it would not come so soon so that LR would be ready for it once it arrived.  That way I wouldn't get caught up in wanting to use it before LR could handle the RAWs.

Adobe informed me this morning that there will be no update for the 5D IV until sometime in November.  Awful job Adobe!!!!

Lightroom has been updated, and support for Mark IV raw files has been added (not including DPR files).

What version of LR are you saying is updated? I just downloaded 5.7. I have a stand alone version of LR, not CC.

Am I able to update my 5.7 to 6.7 via download to my standalone version or do I have to subscribe to CC?

If you have Lightroom 5.7, you have to purchase the upgrade to Lightroom 6 (which in the United States is $79). Or you can subscribe to Lightroom CC 2015.

All of the above assumes your operating system can support Lightroom 6.7/Lightroom CC 2015.7
