It would be great if the Lightroom catalog would auto update/synchronize when a new file was added to a folder in the catalog instead of having to do it manually everytime you save a new photo to a folder in the catalog. This was one of the great features in the old iView Media Pro. I would think it simple to do?

You can do this, but via another folder. Create a different folder, call it "Import" or anything else you like, and set that folder up as 'watched folder'. Add new images to this "Import" folder and setup Lightroom so that images that are added to it are moved to the destination folder you want to store them in. https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/import-photos-automatically.html
