Catalog export/import "too new for this version of Lightroom" (CC 2015.12)

Hello,

I usually do some work on the go on my laptop, then export as catalog and import the catalog onto my desktop (which is then the permanent home). I've been doing this with LR5 and just got CC a couple months ago (only ever used version 2015.12.) The workflow continues to work, as expected.

I just did a couple catalogs this way, exporting the CC 2015.12 catalog on the laptop (macOS) and importing the catalog on the desktop (Windows). However, when I try to open the catalog file on the desktop, I get "The Lightroom catalog named <name> cannot be opened because it is too new to be used by this version of Lightroom. Would you like to select a different catalog?"

or if I open my everything-catalog and try to "import from another catalog" and select the exported catalog-file, the catalog-file is read and brings up the import window, but when I try to import, "Lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error."

Does someone want to investigate further?

As a workaround, should I just export the edits as .xmp sidecar files that get imported into my desktop computer?

Thanks!

Which versions of Lightroom do you use on the computers?

The format of the catalog file differs between LR 5 and LR CC. You can't open a LR CC catalog file in LR 5.You have to use teh same LR version on both computers.

Thought it was pretty clear, but I'm running CC 2015.12 on both machines.

You're allowed to run LR on two machines (although not simultaneously), so running the CC version on both machines will solve your problem.

Are you absolutely sure? You might still have LR5 on your computer and have run it instead of CC.

I do still have LR5 on both machines. I'm absolutely sure that I'm running CC 2015.12. Not that dumb.

Well it has nothing to do with being “dumb”. It has to do something with checking the correct version of Lr on both machines. Check the Lr versions... You will not get a message, when both versions are at the same level, even when using different OS systems.

This must be something else as I am experiencing the same issue on CC 2015.12, but between Windows (where the catalog was created) and OSX (where the import is being attempted).

I do not have any other Lightroom version previously installed on any computers.
