copied LR & original images from Windows to Mac - now 20k or 39k images "missing"

Hi all,

I hadn't found this exact question in the group. I copied my whole Windows hard drive incl Lightroom catalogue to EX-FAT formatted drive for Mac.

Opening LR Classic on Mac it's found the LR catalogue and opened, but of the 39,000 photos, 23,000 of the original files are unable to be located - when I link them to the new Mac hard drive original image it says the image is associated with another image in the catalog.

As far as I'm aware I haven't duplicated any of the imports - just copied the full hard drive across. The Windows drive was called E: and the Mac new drive is called Mac Backup. I'm aware that can cause issues but it's not possible to rename the mac drive with a colon

One thing I've noticed is that in the Mac LR "Folders" left hand bar, my main images folder (which has over 20,000 originals) is not there. Neither are quite a few other smaller subfolders when I compare to the Windows Lightroom. They exist correctly on the hard drive Mac Backup so I'm really confused as to why Lightroom seems to have this pick and choose way with the folders.

Should I try to add the missing folders in manually? There are over 119,000 images in the main folder I refer to above (of which only 20,000) ever made it through to Lightroom for editing. Will those all show up in Lightroom if I add the folder? Will I need to add back a missing image from every subfolder?

Any help gratefully received as I'm slowly losing the plot here,

Nick

Find the duplicate images in the Library module. Click on All Photographs, turn off filters, search by file name.

I would start by copying that catalog again. Folders should not disappear when you copy a catalog to another computer (but they will show as 'missing' because the folder path still starts with a Windows drive letter instead of a Mac disk name), so something is wrong with the copied catalog. Then relink the missing folders, do not relink individual images. See here for more information:
