Cropping Issue

I currently doing some editing. I was changing the aspect ratio of one of my images to 2:3. After that, whenever I try to crop an image, the borders of the image will be cropped both horizontally and vertically, even if i'm only trying to crop vertically or vice versa. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

Click on the padlock icon. It locks you do a given aspect ratio, so unlock it.

My experience is that Lightroom defaults to the aspect ratio in which the image was taken. This has been consistent for me. Can you explain a little further what you are experiencing?
