I get an error when I right click a file and try to enhance it (e.g. noise reduction). The error is:
There was an error writing the file. (1)
E:\2023\04\10\DSCF4988.RAF
This only happens when the files are on an external drive and catalog on local drive. I have checked that the files are not read only and that I have write permissions (I can rename the file in question, I can create files, I can delete files and so on).
If I create a new catalog and use image files on my local (C:) drive it works. Why would it be writing to the RAF anyway? It should be making a DNG. Anyone have a clue?

Oh, and just to be clear: I have almost 1TB free space on the external drive and several hundred gigabytes on the internal drive.

I'm guessing the error message refers to writing the DNG.
You would need to check the permissions on the exact folder that you are trying to write to, which is E:\2023\04\10\. Permissions on files are not relevant.
Another possibility is that there is some hard disk malfunction on the E: drive. You should run diagnostics on this drive.

Can you export the file but not "enhance" it?
Also - GPU details, please. I wonder if it's just a coincidence that the error you see is one which has come up a lot lately in relation to underpowered GPUs failing to run Denoise...

I can indeed export the file. I have an RTX 3080 10GB, running the latest studio driver. Hardly underpowered.

Nice card. We needed to rule it out as a source of the problem.

Turns out it is a problem with the "front" USB port on my computer. I haven't been able to nail _what_ is going on, but the windows logs are filled with "The IO operation at logical block address 0x3867500 for Disk 3 (PDO name: \Device\00000069) was retried." (and similar).
Oddly enough I have been using that port for a while and it has been fine. Either way, I moved it to the rear USB 3.2 C-port and it's now fine.
