I have had a problem appear in the past week that is very annoying! I shoot say 50 images (nikon z8), import them from an SD card to my 2021 M1 Macbook Pro and between half and 3/4 of the images do not have an EXIF data. "Metadata Status" is "Has been changed" and I only have the pixel dimensions of the shot in the EXIF. If I delete all the images with no EXIF data and import again from the card, some have the EXIF data, some don't.
I updated to 14.0.1 and this problem persists.
This problem appeared out of the blue. I have attached the the metadata for two images that were imported one after the other below.

What happens if you copy them to your Mac's hard drive , and then import them?
Also what if you select the images with missing EXIF data into a Metadata> Read from file?
I'm wondering if the files may be corrupted, for example. Are they all raw files? Compressed or some other option?

Thanks for the suggestios/questions. I may have discovered the root of the problem. I have my images and Lightroom library on an external drive (around 500,000 images).
When I tried reading the same SD card with the same RAW files using my travel laptop, where everything is on the macbook pro's harddrive, 100% of the files come across with all the EXIF data in place. I'm thinking there are sometimes errors writing to the external hard drive I use with my main computer.
