Export RAW image with edits from lightroom mobile

Neu hier ,
Dec 16, 2017 Dec 16, 2017

I have edited some images in the lightroom app, but I want to finish editing it on lightroom desktop. I can only get the original RAW file from my mobile device but without any of the changes I already did. Is there a way to export with settings from lightroom mobile?

Assuming you have both Lr mobile and desktop synced to the Adobe Cloud then any edits applied in mobile should sync to the desktop.

How are you getting 'the original RAW file from the mobile device' to the desktop?

How can I export a raw image from Lightroom CC mobile, either with, or without changes?  The option to ’export original’ from the ’share’ Dropdown is visible, but not selectable.

Isn't the raw image already on the desktop, along with the adjustments that were made on the mobile? If everything is synchronized properly, that's the way it should be.

The Original Raw is on the desktop and the mobile device has been synced to also have the raw images.  Now, I’d like to share with someone else an image, either with, or without edits, from my mobile device.  Ideally, it would be best to upload the raw export directly to Dropbox.  Even an email would suffice.  Is this possible?  Again, I can see the ‘export original’ option in the share field, but it is not selectable.

I'm at a disadvantage here because I don't use mobile devices (please don't ask why because it's complicated). But one way that you could share the image would be to go to Lightroom.adobe.com on your computer and sign in with your Adobe ID and password. That will give you access to all the images that you have synchronized. You can create a shared link for that image and e-mail that link to anyone. If that doesn't work for you then perhaps someone else will have a better suggestion.

From what I have been able to determine, the “export original” option is only available for specific purposes. If you take a photograph using your iPhone or iPad in RAW mode, you will have the option of working on it and “export original”.  If you upload a RAW, DNG or PSD file to iCloud and then import it to Lightroom mobile, you will have the option to “export original”.  If you are using a synced RAW, DNG or PSD file, you will not have the option to “export original”.

In my workflow, I upload images to my home workstation, create a collection for that specific shoot and sync to Adobe’s Creative Cloud.  I then open Lightroom Mobile on my iPad Pro and sync the new files.  I also select “store locally”, because this allows me to work on the images independent of network access.  The edits are also remarkably fast.

What I find disappointing is that I have not found a way to output the original file with the changes I’ve made to a high quality file.  I can output to a limited size jpg, but the “export original” option is not available.  If I want the full file, let’s say to open in another editor like Affinity Photo, I have to sync the files back to my home system and export the full file to icloud and then import to the editor.  I should be able to export a full size original (RAW, DNG, whatever) on my iPad and open in another editor.  This would seem like a reasonable request for a normal workflow.  If I’ve missed something, please don’t hesitate to inform me, I’ve been working on this for a while.

The only "other editor" that would have the capability to open a raw (original raw or DNG) would be another raw converter. Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements or any other "regular" photo editor would not be able to open the raw file because those editors, without a raw converter, don't have the capability to open raw images. That's why Photoshop needs Camera Raw. If you had Photoshop installed without the camera raw plug-in, it would be impossible to open raw files.

Fine, I’d settle for the ability to output a high quality jpg.  From what I’ve seen, my choices are “2048pxl or max available” - neither of which is very good and certainly not close to what I can output using the desktop software. Oh, and Affinity Photo for iPad opens Canon RAW just fine.

That's because Affinity Photo is a raw converter. That maximum size you are talking about from Lightroom CC is because those are smart previews. If you import the images directly to Lightroom CC then you'll have the full-sized images. But if they are images that were synchronized from Classic you'll have to settle for the smaller image. Classic cannot send full-sized images to the cloud. It isn't designed to do that.

Jim, that is one very fine answer! I made the assumption that since I have "Only download smart previews" set to OFF (on the ipad) that it wouldn't just send me smart previews.  So I even though I have more than adequate room on my ipad and the ipad is capable of working on RAW images and more than fast enough network speed for the transfer of a very large data set and a TB of storage with Adobe and I have smart previews set to off, I will still only get the smart previews? I think maybe we have an item that could use correction on the next release.  Sarcasm aside, your answer was very helpful if indeed that is the cause and I believe it is very plausible and I think you are probably correct.  It answers a long standing question, I just obviously disagree with the design.

BTW, smart previews are even disabled on the original computer I'm syncing with running CC.

You might disagree with the design. However, the ONLY file type that Lightroom Classic CC is capable of synchronizing with Lightroom CC is a smart preview. Classic cannot synchronize full-sized images of any type with the cloud. If you want full-sized images in the cloud you have to use a mobile device or the desktop version of Lightroom CC (the cloud-based Lightroom). The advantage of this process is that none of the Smart previews impact your cloud allotment. So you can use Lightroom CC to import images that you "need" full-sized images in the cloud, and have them synchronized back to Classic. That way you can have the full-sized images in both programs. Then, for other images that it doesn't really matter, you can synchronize the Smart previews from Classic and that allows you to more efficiently use your cloud space. At least that's the way I look at it.

There is a way to do this as of Aug 2022
(Adobe may improve or remove this in future revisions.)

It's not immediately evident in the interface, but the process is fairly simple once you know how to do it.

This is via Lightroom Mobile to Lightroom Classic (Lightroom may have a slightly different interface):

  • From Lightroom on your mobile device, select the photo and tap the actions button in the top menu
  • Choose Export as…
  • Choose Original or DNG as file format.
  • You'll get an export dialog asking you what you want to do with the export.
Choose email and mail to yourself.
(Or choose any file export location that suits you as long as you can get access to the actual file.
  • When you get the email. Place the file on your hard drive in a place that's appropriate to how you organize your photos.
  • Import the file from your hard drive into lightroom either by dragging to your Lightroom library window (easiest), or navigate to the file by Lightroom's internal file browser at the left of the Lightroom window.
  • The file will be added with all edit metadata (e.g. adjustments, cropping, masking, etc)
  • NOTE: Ifn you open such exported files directly in Photoshop via Camera RAW rather than importing to Lightroom, you may get all of the edits etc, but the area outside the crop rectangle may be lost.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Tom

NOTE:
This method is for those who do not automatically have all their shots sync via Adobe Cloud.
It will work for others too, but you may not need it — I leave that to you.
(Default syncing via cloud is not a feasible workflow for many professionals like myself. Many of us in the profession set our default not to sync via cloud, and only sync a very small number of select images. If you're one of those professionals, you know why, and I don't have to tell you. But, if you're just someone who doesn't want to have every photo you shoot be dumped into the cloud by default, this should work for you too. Cheers : )

"import a RAW image the color of the photo always changes to black and white"

Do you have a 'Monochrome' profile (eg. a Scene mode) set in the camera?  Lightroom will show your photo using the set camera profile.

Until you discover why this is happening, you should be able to choose and set a Color Profile in the Edit mode of Lightroom. (RAW image files always retain 'color'.)

I already have a subscription to lightroom mobile but every time I try to import a RAW image the color of the photo always changes to black and white, is there a way out for me to solve this problem?

You have posted in the wrong forum. This is the Lightroom CLassic forum but your question is not about Lightroom Classic. Please post in the Lightroom (Ecosystem) forum.
