export slideshow Just Doesn't Work

Explorer ,
Jan 06, 2019 Jan 06, 2019

While running a newer version of Lightroom CC Classic, I tried using the 'export as video' option in the slideshow module.  Doesn't work at all.

Have tried repeatedly on both my Macbook Pro and Windows machine.  Have also tried a variety of resolutions (1080p, 720p, all the way down to 480x270).  For all of these, it seems to take forever to process.  For-ever, really.  I've had a 57 photo slideshow exporting now for more than a day, and the progress bar is still waaay early.

Totally unacceptable - this appears to have been a long-standing issue (there's been forum activity about this for more than a year).

Also not seeing any tangible response from Adobe folks on any of these threads.  Not building this customer's confidence, seriously.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that "Export as Video" feature is not working, could you please let us know the exact version of Lightroom Classic you're working on by going to Help > System info?

Also, what video format are you trying to export the video in?
Does Lightroom freeze when you choose export as video?

Regards,
Sahil

PLEASE follow the testing instructions. Can you export a different, smaller set of images AS A SLIDESHOW?

Sorry I wasn't clear before.  I've tried multiple selections of pictures, also smaller slideshows (~20).  Also not a diskspace issue - lots (over 250 GB) of it available.  Have reproduced this same issue (like it never works) on both windows 10 and mac High Sierra machines.

Just Doesn't Work.

Would love to hear any ideas from Adobe (or someone who uses their products) - very frustrating that they're falling down on this one.

Just being curious - I remember that this happened in earlier versions of LR - does this happen with the latest version?

I went through the same experience. Slide exports just did not wok. But that was 2 years ago and has gotten better. A couple of random things that helped me:

Observe CPU activity. If LR seems busy but CPU is not, then it has crashed. This could help to isolate bad photos.

Once LR looks as being finished it is not. LR creates two temporary files that some background task then converts into a single mp4 file. Do not touch anything before that single MP4 is created.

Clearing the video cache can help, resetting preferences too. I remember a post were some frame around a slide was the problem. So, try a plain and simple show: no plate, no frame, nothing. Does the preview work?

I had 950 photos and Lr took 8 hours and used 40 GiGaby the to create a 10Gb file.

If you need results: Get Adobe Rush and drop your photos in there. It will make a video too, the first three are free.

I just tried exporting a slideshow (Export Video) on version 8.1 of LR, no issues whatsoever. 37 DNG's from a Canon 5DMII, resulting video was exported at 1080P (and the smallest option), again, no issue on this end.

Maybe it's a disk permission or similar issue?

Curious if you alter the GPU preferences (from on to off) if you see any difference. You can also try resetting preferences:

How about Export as Catalog JUST the images you've tried, create new catalog, Import as Catalog and try again; works or not?

So - haven't verified this on my mac yet, but turning off GPU acceleration makes it more reliable on windows.  Hm.

Would be great to hear from someone with ADBE as to whether this failing GPU acceleration is a known issue.  it's a nasty one to be sure.

Can you run a test, exporting a new sideshow using other images NOT in the current slideshow? I'm wondering if one is an issue and locking up the process.

I had many issues with slideshows and it alway was caused by low disk space. You need to have around 40 GByte on C. Check if you have that. Repeated aborted slideshow exports do not clean up and consume amazing amounts of hard disk space in the wildest corners of your disk.
