I left my Macbook last night with Lightroom open, but completely idle. No background tasks whatsoever, no exporting metadata or anything like that..just completely idle.
Came to it this morning and the Macbook was hot to touch.. really unusual as it's a Macbook M1 Max, 64gb RAM, 2tb SSD, Mac OS 14.5 and rarely breaks into a sweat.
I checked activity monitor and saw the CPU usage for Lightroom was over 400%... this is abnormal, when it's idle, surely??
I've quit Lightroom now and the computer has noticably cooled down in just 5 minutes as I write this..

Is LrC busy syncing to the cloud?
Despite your not telling it to do so.

I have the same problem.
If someone has a solution, please, describe here !
When Lightrrom is open, CPU usage goes to Everest peak !
(and No, I don't have LrC busy syncing to the cloud or something like this).

I have the same issue. While Lightroom is open and idle, the CPU is approximately 240%. I have sync off.

Over 1400% CPU usage!!!!
I had an old Macbook Pro 2014, I7 with 16GB of RAM. Last year, with the latest versions of Lightroom, the performance was terrible, but it worked bravely. Due to lack of money (Brazilian photographer, poor South American!), I bought a Macbook Pro 2019, Core I9 with 16GB of RAM. The performance is 1000x worse! This 2019 model must be Apple's biggest failure!
