Not sure this is a bug, but I have been unable to update to LrC 14.0.1. I keep getting the following error message:
Exit Code: 146 -------------------------------------- Summary -------------------------------------- - 2 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 1 warnings(s) FATAL: Error (Code = 146) executing in command 'MoveFileCommand' for package: 'AdobeLightroom-mul', version:14.0.1.202410161356 FATAL: Error occurred in install of package (Name: AdobeLightroom-mul Version: 14.0.1.202410161356). Try setting correct permissions to the specified file/folder or parent folder, so that admin has rights to modify it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I looked at the /System/Volumes directory and there is no Data directory yet, so I'm assuming Adobe was trying to create the directory.
I'm not sure how to resolve this other than to change the permissions on the Volumes directory to "Read and write" for "everybody". That makes
me a little uncomfortable. I've tried updating several times, tried rebooting the machine, and tried turning off
FileVault—none of those helped. I've done some searching online and I haven't found anyone else reporting a similar problem.
Any suggestions? If I remember correctly, I've updated my MacOs to Sonoma since I last updated LrC. Don't
know if that would make a difference. I updated Bridge and Photoshop with no problems today. Bridge
is working OK; haven't opened PS yet.
Rename your Lightroom Classic.app as Lightroom Classic old.app and it should work. The permissions got messed up with the application folder, so you will need your account password to allow the change, but the installer should work now.

Reposting this because some of the text got cut off when I posted it the first time.

This worked! I am now up and running on Lightroom 14.0.1. Thank you, bradmacpro@aol.com!

Thank you bradmacpro@aol.com , this worked for me too. Very grateful for your advice! NB: you need to re-name the app Lightroom Classic, not the folder in which the app resides. That's what bradmacpro@aol.com writes, but I didn't read the text carefully enough and first renamed the Lightroom Classic folder. So just mentioning this to help others avoid the same mistake.

I had the same problem as above. Error code 146. I uninstalled the whole LRC app and now it will not reinstall. what can I do? How do I change the name if I uninstalled it? TIA.

Hi @Edmcdonald , it's been a while since I did this, but you might try installing an older version (13.?) from the Creative Cloud app and then going through the steps bradmacpro@aol.com suggests. If I recall correctly, I reinstalled the last 13.x and was able to use that version for a while before bradmacpro@aol.com posted his solution. You might be able to install 14.0 (not 14.0.1) and rename that version per the instructions, but I think I started by reverting to 13.x. Hope this helps; I doubt it can hurt.

I have exactly the same problem, on a Mac with Ventura. I cannot open Lightroom Classic anymore and have tried updating 6 times, no success. Always the same 146 error, as quoted by @anneg60362629
From the suggestions on the page you refer to I have tried most.
One of the things that is not immediately clear from instructions in the log file is of WHICH folder permissions need to be changed. It just says 'the specified folder' but source and target are both mentioned so which should it be? At first I assumed, like @anneg60362629 , that this refers to the source folder -which is somewhere deep down in the system where the average user fears to tread.
Like @anneg60362629 , I could not find /System/Volumes/Data/ , within the Volumes folder no Data folder is visible. So deleting the file/folder that causes the problem manually is no option either -unless perhaps for very experienced users who know how to reach it.
As I use Lightroom Classic every day for various assigments I am very frustrated at the moment, and worried too. So I am hoping for a quick solution.

I have this exact same issue too. Photoshop was updated 2 days ago without a problem but lightroom gets error code 146 when trying to update.

I went through as many of the listed suggestions as I could.
Most of the directories listed simply did not exist. There still is no "Data" directory under System/Volumes, and I was not able to change the permissions on System/Volumes, even though I'm an admin. The linked web page is dated 16 September 2021; could the directories involved have changed? Also, this article
was written for Windows users, and I doubt the directory structure is the same on Macs.
Turning off my virus scanning software did not help.
My Creative Cloud app is up to date because it updates automatically.
I tried reinstalling 13.5.1 and then updating to 14.0.1, and that didn't work.
I tried uninstalling 13.5.1, not reinstalling, and then updating and that didn't work.
I looked throught the installation log, which is very long, found more fatal errors, and decided that it's not my job to figure it out. I've attached the installation log. Especially given that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, I think it's time for Adobe staff to look into this.

Just to check: can you still use LR Classic although updatingfails? For I can't , when I try to open LR I get a pop-up error message "the app Adobe Lightroom Classic.app cannot be opened'' . The only option then is "OK", which to my great annoyance I have to click, though it is not okay at all. For I cannot use LR at all at the moment, which is a serious problem!

Hi @apalca—If I remember correctly, I had to uninstall 13.5.1 and then reinstall it to be able to use that older version. Try uninstalling LrC using the uninstaller in the Lightroom folder under Applications. Reinstall from the Creative Cloud (CC) app—I had to reinstall 13.5, then upgrade to 13.5.1 because the CC app acted as if 13.5.1 was still installed. You can access and install other versions:
1. Click on Apps on the left side of the Creative Cloud window
2. In the LrC section of the All apps window click on the 3 dots in the lower left corner and select "other versions"
3. The panel that opens gives you the option of installing older versions
Hope this helps.

Thank you @anneg60362629 ! Very clear and helpful. I may have to try this but was hoping for a reply from @G0apher or another Adobe employee that would solve the issue.
I don't like uninstalling apps because of the risk of losing settings, presets, -all these (small) things one has carefully orchestrated over the years to suit personal preferences - the where and how now long forgotten.
But better to be brave and self-supporting and make things work again, like you did.

The uninstaller gives you the option of not removing preferences & other information when you run it. I haven't noticed anything different with LrC since I did the uninstall/reinstall—I haven't done a lot beyond exporting files I needed to print, though.

I tried this method and it worked for me. I also have a lot of presets and other personal settings and all was fine by clicking the option to keep preferences and settings.

Thank you @anneg60362629 and @sebastianhedin for the tips and feedback, I have also uninstalled the failed update and installed 13.5.1. as outlined. It worked and all is now again functioning as it should, thanks to your comments.
The only thing I may have done differently: I turned off automatic updates for LR Classic in CC first of all. Then I found CC does that as part of the process, once you choose a previous version to install.
Anyway: now I can go back to work!
