"Files are on a volume that does not support trash" shows up as an error in Windows 11 when deleting items stored on my NAS (Synlology). It seems that this issue is similar to what has been described for Mac users for many years now, still without a fix.

I wish there would be a fix for this, at lest an option to always ignore such messages (checkbox in preferences or otherwise)

Could you share a bit more info? How long have you been experiencing this error? Did it start happening after a recent update? Does this issue occur with all files or just specific ones? Also, how much free space do you have on your NAS?

Hi Alek!
I've experienced this since I've recently moved my files to a NAS (couple of weeks). Did not have this when photos were stored on a local drive or a USB SSD drive. This issue occurs with all files as far as I can see. And there are several TBs avalable on the NAS.

Hi Alek,
The recycle bin is enabled, and not limited to administrators (see screenshot below).
What I suspect is that this NAS recycle bin is not Windows (or macOS) native. When deleting files through Windows Explorer, it too assumes that the file will be permanently deleted and not sent to any recycle bin. The actual recycle bin handling is done within the NAS OS (Synology DSM in this case) when files are deleted, which is not seen by Windows (and thus Lightroom by extension). See screenshot below.
I therefore believe that the Lightroom message about the files are on a volume that does not support the recycle bin is expected behaviour and not neccecarily a bug (since, as far as LR knows no recycle bin exists). Can you confirm this?
In any case, I can live with this "feature", but I'd really like the option to turn off this warning message. This would allow me to have the same workflow as I have when files are stored locally when deleting items: Select item(s) -> press delete key -> Press delete from disk

Thanks for the additional info. Unfortunately, I don't have a NAS to test this behavior, so the best way to confirm if this is expected would be to reach out to Synology support.
I think there's no way to avoid that message prompt when deleting your files, but a workaround could be flagging all the pictures you'd like to delete as "rejected" and then deleting them in a batch at the end of your session.

Are you saying that no Adobe employee or developer has a NAS to control this issue? I'd appreciate if this case was transferred to one of your colleagues. From Synology's point of view, the NAS is working as intended.
This is indeed a LR issue with the extra "delete permanently" prompt (which has apparently bothered people since 2013).
I am simply asking if this could be lifted to the correct decision taker at Adobe to develop a simple check box in the settings menu to allow for users to ovveride this prompt. Is this possible?

I'd suggest checking out the Ideas board to see if there's already a thread for your suggestion. You can upvote existing threads or start a new one if you don't see it listed. The dev team goes through all these suggestions and prioritizes future features based on what users are most interested in.

I can confirm this issue - it has been for years (at least since 2013 / Lightroom v5 and Synology DSM v5). It happens on all LR library source files stored on Synology NAS (Windows mapped drive). Windows 11 Pro 24H2,, LRC 14.1.1., Synology DSM 7.2.2. Recycle bin enabled on NAS. Workaround is to mark photos as rejected and delete entire batch at once, but still annoying.
