Files could not be copied to the backup location

I'm working on a new MacBook Pro and trying to create an Import preset so that file copies get written to an external SanDisk SSD. On starting the import, LrC recognizes the folder, but when executing the import I get a message "The files could not be copied to the backup location." I checked the SanDisk and saw the file had not been copied. To ensure that there wasn't a SanDisk failure, I copied another file from my desktop computer into the same folder and was able to find it with Mac Finder.  Not sure what to do next.

Hey, @Joan23139218hklg. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out. Where are the images stored before import, on the internal or external drive?

Is this SanDisk drive fresh? If it is right out of the box, try reformatting it once.

Just to be sure, ensure Lightroom Classic has the required permissions on the macOS: https://adobe.ly/43zB3AJ

Let us know how it goes. Thanks!
