Heavy lags in Lightroom since v13.3

Hi,

I have heavy lags in Lightroom which I relate to the 13.3 update:

-             Zooms and moves lags.

-             Colour adjustments lags.

-             Precision tools like healing brush and clone tools are impossible to align with precision.

-             …

It seems like everything related to the display being laggy.

To me it started with the 13.3 update.

I’m on Windows 11 Pro, Processor Intel i9 12900k, 32gb of DDR5 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060Ti 8gb.

Windows is up to date as all drivers and software, Lightroom is v.13.3.1 and the graphic card driver is NVIDIA Studio 555.99.

I clean all Lightroom caches, deactivate every plug-in and tried to set the graphic acceleration on manual all on, auto or totally deactivated but the problem remains the same.

Any ideas? Am I the only one?

Hi,

It was the default setting (I think 4 GB, and had no problem with it), but I push it to 100 GB with no difference.

Thanks, then I don't suspect the G: drive as part of the issue.

I have tried to go back to LR 13.2: no problem with the instal but I could not open the catalogue of my current work as it has been created with LR 13.3.1. Any way to open a newer catalog with an older version of LR?

You can't open a newer version catalog with a previous version unfortunately.

One of the main reasons for very slow performance is the use of antivirus or antimalware software. Try turning that off if you are using it.

Thanks, I've just tried that but LR 13.3 is still very laggy.

In fact I have a 1-3 seconds lag at each action: enable/disable an exposure mask on the sky, move the source point of the healing brush, hover a snapshot to compare before/after...

Among over things I'm currently removing a cloud of flies in the sky on a few pictures and the healing brush is one or two clics late => sometimes the previous fly is not yet erase when I clic on the next, some times I press the space bar to move and instaed I get a long healing brush stroke.

I insist on that my configuration worked very well using LR 13.2 and the problems started with the LR 13.3/13.3.1 versions with no changes of mine.

I've tried to work with LR 13.2 on an older catolog and there is no lag.

So, to me, it seems to be a proble with the v13.3.x version.

I guess a futur update might solve the problem but do you have any work around to finish my current job started on v13.3.1?

Have you tried to turn of any antivirus or other third-party scanning tools? The fact that you have no lag in 13.2 doesn't mean anything for this.

There is no workaround to use newer catalogs in older Lightroom versions. Only thing you can do is to export the new images as originals from the new version and then import those files or to write metadata to files from the newer versions and read the metadata in the older version. Note that there are many new features in 13.3 that don't exist in 13.2 so won't come along if you do this.

Yes I've tried to turn off the antivirus but I doesn't improve things.

I'm interested in your idea of exporting from LR 13.3.1 and then import in a new catalog in LR 13.2 but could you detail the process to keep the work already done: organised collections, sorting toolskeywords (colors, notes and flags), exposure/color adjust, mask, healing brush,etc...?

I guess I have to make sure that the metadatas are included in the RAW flies but I'm not familiar with the process.

Note that I didn't use any off the LR 13.3 newer features (to my knowledge), but I use the heling brush a lot that is now is the new erase panel, and the "AI" sky selection (same as before).

Collections don't transfer but everything else does. All you do is select all the newly edited images and hit control-S. This creates xmp metadata files next to the files that contains all the keywords and develop settings. In the old catalog you either import those files if they were not yet imported or, if they were already imported, you do a read metadata from files on those images and it will import the new settings you made in 13.3 and that were saved to the xmp metadata files. You can also use the synchronise folder command (right click on a folder) if it is an entire folder of images.

Thanks,

With some difficulties I'm rendered to the last 15 pictures of that job so I'll play safe and keep on.

But I'll defenitiveley try your solution on next week for my next editing job, too bad the only things I've done on that is some sorting catalogs on LR 13.3.1...

Any ideas if my problem is common (i.e if I can hope for a next update 13.3.2 that fix taht in a resonable amont of time)?

I've seen some other people having troubles with the last update on other discussions but not that exact problem.

I think every single update there are some people that experience extreme slowness. It is very strange but also not extremely common I believe. Problem is likely the extremely large variety of hardware and software combinations that can be encountered

Sure,

browsing the discussion board I've seen quite a few problems with the 13.2 update, and I guess that if I'd search deeper the same was true with all the previous ones.

But is there a way to send a feedback/alert to Adobe other than this forum?

No this is it except if you know some engineers personally. The Adobe folks absolutely do read this forum and try to reproduce issues which is why you typically get asked to put a system report in the post. I've seen it countless times now that a bug gets discovered and reproduced on this forum and fixed in the next version. The slowness issues are really random though and very hard to reproduce. I have never seen it on my hardware but the many posts on this forum and others make it clear that it is real even if I can't reproduce it (knocks wood).

Hi,

I have the same issue with you, very annoying!

my config is win11 with AMD 7950x3d, 4070ti, 64gb ddr5, all drivers is updated.

If I disable gpu acceleration, all become smooth, so I think that may be the have some problem with the gpu driver.

Thanks but I've already tried that solulion with no succes.

From what I have see here and on other forums it's not an isolated case so I'll go back to LR 13.2 and wait for LR 13.4 (and I'll do a test before moving to it during a job).

Hi, I have a similar issue on Mac, described here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/performance-issues-in-lrc-13-3/idi-p/14674371

Could you please have a look and let me know if you can replicate the issue with the steps I described in my post?

Hi, I had a look at your post, but I guess I will be of very little help as I don't ever use cloud sync (I don't like my images to be "out there in the wild").

+ for now-on I'm back to LR 13.2 for my ongoing work.

+ I'm not a Mac user.

All I can say is that obviously my problem is not related to cloud sync, which does not mean that both problems could not coexist or be related.

As for my CPU usage it's a bit strange to me: while LR is laggy and unresponsive CPU and RAM are not excessively solicited, I haven’t done any comparative tests, but I would say both usages are “normal”. CPU around 80% only during peak activity and quite the same for the RAM.

Same as with LR 13.2

GPU vary wherever I use GPU acceleration or not and might peak at 100% and 100% of VRAM but only for slip seconds: I only know that because I recorded it with HWMonitor, but whenever I look in real time it’s more like 5-10%.

Again, to me it seems like a normal behavior.

That why I’m quite troubled by LR 13.3 behavior as is doesn’t seems to be a hardware resources limitation.

I hope you can solve your problem, to me the temporary solution is to go back to LR 13.2 but it’s because my workflow allows me to do so as every job is in a different folder with a different LR library.

But for the job started with LR 13.3 I was trapped with it for 10+ days while it should have been as small week worth of work. I definitely should have gone back to LR 13.2 before I was too deep in it.
