How to create new folder in an external HD within Lightroom Classic.

Hello. How do I create a new folder in an external HD within Lightroom Classic? I work on a Mac computer. I have an existing external HD where I store photos from previous years. From within Lightroom Classic I can see the various folders containing my photos but they are for the most part seemingly jumbled randomly. I keep my photos in monthly folders all nestled together in a main folder for the year in which they were taken. I have been doing this for decades and it works well for me. When I look at the exteral HD in the Finder on my computer I see all my photos neatly stored by year with each year containing 12 folders for the months. When I look at the external HD from within Lightroom I do not see this structure. The various months appear to be in a random order. In the past I have been able to nest the various months with their photos within a top folder for that one year. I have forgotten how to accomplish this organization from within Lightroom.

Could someone please explain how to accomplish this file structure from within Lightroom Classic?

Option Click on within the drive and select the option for a new folder (the HD below named Lightroom is an external drive):

If your folders appear randomly jumbled, the trick is to right (or control) click on one of them and select "Show parent folder". This should display the folder above it in the Finder structure and automatically file the other folders in there under it and alphabetize them. Keep doing this until you arrive at the top level you want to have in there.

A trick that I picked up from here years ago is to import a junk picture into the folder you want as the root of your displaced folder tree. Any imports after that will auto-generate the shown folder tree as shown by your OS file browser.
