How will my LR CC deal with new, interim computer?

Hi,

I am getting data transfer by Apple from an ailing computer to an interim computer which I'll use during repairs. What will happen when I try to use my LR CC on the interim computer?

Thanks,

Raphael

Install Creative Cloud desktop on the interim computer. Then go to the Apps tab to install Lightroom and any other CC apps that you need.

Apples Migration tool is OK for transferring data but should not be used for transferring third party apps such as Adobe.

If you don’t need access to your existing catalog you could run a temporary catalog to import and work on new photos and then merge it with your master catlog when your computer is repaired.

I read somewhere about how someone else used Apple to transfer information from one computer to another, and the Lightroom catalog file did not get transferred (they knew to transfer the photos, but not the catalog file). Don't rely on Apple to find the catalog file and transfer it. Specifically instruct them to find this file and transfer it; the same goes for your presets, if you use them.

Thanks!

I will show them your message and hopefully they'll know what to do.

"Hopefully" does not really inspire confidence ... the stories I have heard about Apple techs trying to do the right thing regarding Lightroom do not inspire confidence ... tell them the exact name and location of the file and that the file MUST be transferred.

If you want your full catalog on the interim machine you need to copy the catalog as Paige says. It’s the file ending .lrcat and then double-click (control-click) on it to launch. It’s the same procedure as moving to a brand new computer.

You can also copy the previews (optionally) but that can often be a very large file and Lightroom will generate new previews on the fly, as required.

It is usually straightforward. See if this link and video tutorial helps:
