My workflow starts with a RAW image in LR 6.8.  I then select "edit in" CS6.  CS 6 opens but there is no image in it.  This used to work and just stopped.  This is on a Mac OS.  No error messages just Photoshop is open with nothing in it.

If you select an image that you have previously edited in Lr 6.8 and 'Edit In' will that still open as it did before? Is this only new RAW images that you have imported? Can you post a screen shot showing the image selected and the edit in dialog box open? Can you open the image from within Photoshop?

I think I have a clue.  I was first shooting with a Nikon D810 and all the images operate between LR and Photoshop as expected.  I was having a problem with the body and switched to a Nikon D5 to complete the project.  While all the D5 images operate in LR just fine, when I go to Edit In, there are no error messages, photoshop opens but there is no image in it. When I try to open a file directly in photoshop (from the D5) I get an error "photoshop cannot open this file" Is to to make sure I have the latest version of Camera Raw. I have the Desktop version of CS6 v 13.0.6 x64 but I don't see a way to update camera raw.  Suggestions?

The D810 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.6 which is compatible with CS6.

The D5 was first supported in Camera Raw 9.5 which is not compatible with CS6. The last version of Camera Raw compatible with CS6 was 9.1.1.

Options:

  1. Upgrade to the Photography Plan and get Photoshop CC to edit the Raw D5 files in Photoshop, or
  2. Use Lightroom to convert all Raw D5 files to DNG format (either during import to LR or after importing) then edit the DNGs in CS6.

Thanks very much...  While I can't say I am thrilled to be forced to the CC version or use dng, at least the mystery is solved.  Thanks very much!
