I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.

Twice today when I imported photographs into lightroom it was in mode add as opposed to Copy.

This occured on two different computers.

I was surprised.

I never use Add as its dangerous. You think you have the photos on your PC/Laptop but they are still only on the card.

ADD is for when you have already copied from the card to your hard drive (in your attended location)

Now, typically, one would expect the import module settings to be where they were at previous import (Copy, Copy as DNG, Add, Move, destination, presets, renaming, etc)

One situation, I have found that my system will have issues with this is when my previous destination is not available (do not think it affected method however)

The only time this happens is IF your computer is somehow showing your camera memory card as an External Drive (or internal drive) and not a card in a card reader.

The Default for LR is Copy when it sees a memory card in a card reader. And actually you can't even select Move or Add. those options are grayed out.

So where is the memory card? Still in the camera, in an external card reader, or internal card reader?

Are you connecting your card while still in your camera? I have read that that can confuse the Import process somewhat . . .
