I inadvertantly had my camera set to record RAW + JPEG images and when exporting from Photo Mechanic into LR, both the RAW + JPEG is imported into LR.
I note under Edit, Preferences, General Tab in LR, there is an option to "Treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separate photos" by checking the box. It is assumed that leaving the box unchecked hides the JPEG and oly the RAW files shows upon import. However it does not appear to work and both the RAW and JPEG copy show in the Library and Develop modes regardless.
Would appreciate some advice on this please. I cvan simply delete the JPEG copy as I process the RAW file but would prefer not the see the JPEG copy at all.

Correct. Although Lightroom still is aware of the companion JPG considering it a sidecar file and will illustrate this awareness in the Histogram panel.
But after changing the preference option it will only apply to future Imports.

I cannot comment on PhotoMechanic, but if you renamed files (or otherwise changed them- I know not how!) with PM then Lr does not 'see' the JPG as a 'sidecar' file and would import it regardless of the preference.

Yes. But if they show in the Lr library- [delete] them from the Drive permanently (or only [Remove] from the library) using the Lightroom Library (not the OS). If you [Delete] the JPGs using the OS then you will be left with 'missing' previews of the JPGs in the catalog (more annoyance!).
