Today, the Adobe web site has been revamped, and it's all Creative Cloud.
I'm just curious, if I wanted to buy the perpetual license version of Lightroom, how do I do this? About 10 minutes of surfing at adobe.com failed to find a web page where I can purchase the perpetual license.
It's not easy, I'll grant you that. But it is possible.
From the adobe.com homepage: MENU > Products > All Products > Photoshop Lightroom > Buy
Let me know if that doesn't work for you.
Regards,
Jeff

Simply Google "Download Lightroom 5.6"

Thank you for the replies, and yes I have tried "Download Lightroom 5.6" but there is no mention of the deal you go through until you have downloaded it. I already have the program and I am doing the research for a friend, though now with some concern for myself for when version 6 comes out.
Or am I being a grumpy distrusting paranoid?

99jon's reply seems to be off the mark, the issue is not downloading the free trial, the issue is purchasing the software.
In addition to this thread, there are dozens of threads here in this forum that explain how to PURCHASE the perpetual license version of Lightroom 5.6

Yes, it's possible to purchase a perpetual licence if you are persistent or read forums like this, but after reading the threads started by inexperienced buyers and users, it seems clear that most of them (and by extension most who don't come to this forum) just visit Adobe.com and try to buy Lr. Proably, most, when the perpetual licence isn't immediately obvious, just make do with the cloud version, and assume that no other type is available.
You just have to wonder what Adobes game is, other than the obvious one of saying that as nobody seems to want to buy perpetual Lr licences, there's no point in supplying them...

You can still buy LR5 on Amazon.com and save $5 for the full version or upgrade.
We'll have to wait and see if Adobe allows Amazon (and others) to sell LR6.

Adobe’s game is to get people to sign up for the cloud so they make the Photographer’s Plan which includes LR+PS obvious and don’t make the other one very obvious, although the link to it is at the bottom of every adobe.com page, the Products link in the gray footer area.

I haven't seen a proper explanation for how to buy the perpetual license for Lightroom; so I will provide it.
1. Go to adobe.com
2. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on "products"
Note: DO NOT click on the "products" link from the menu or anyway other than the link specified above. This will only bring you to page that only offers subscription services
3. Scroll down through the products until you see light room
4. To the right of the Lightroom icon there will be a "buy" link that says upgrade above it. Ignore the upgrade price and just click on buy.
5. Now click on the pull down menu where you see "upgrade". Click this and then select "full"
6. Click on "add to cart" and now you can purchase the perpetual license
I am surprised that no one has spelled this out yet. I have found no other way to add the perpetual license for Lr to the cart other than the method above. Adobe does indeed make it very hard to find that option. I have met MANY people who insist that you can only buy the subscription version of Lr. After going to the adobe site I now understand why. I am really disappointed in adobe for this reason. Buying the perpetual version of Lr or elements is the ONLY way to continue to open your images if you ever stop using their subscription products.

Not true. If your subscription expires, Lightroom continues to work, except for the develop module and map module. All other features work, so all of the work that you have put into Lightroom is still available to you.

The Develop module continues to work partially, i.e. edits done previous to the end of the subscription and retained in the catalog (which is unaffected by the termination) are applied, viewable and can be exported, but they cannot be modified and new editing cannot be done.

I just tried clicking menu then lightroom and on the ipad there is an option to buy the stand alone. For some reason there is a missing section on the lightroom page when viewed from safari and chrome (I haven't tried other browsers). The third section down on the lightroom page has "Lightroom and Creative Cloud" at the top. On safari and chrome this is the last section on the lightroom page. On the iPad there is a fourth section at the bottom with different purchase options, including the perpetual license. I wonder if this is some sort of glitch. I seem to remember the full page loading on my computer a month or two ago.
