Keyboard Star Rating Being Applied to the Wrong Image

Hey Everyone,

I'm using LRClassic on windows, and I'm having this problem with multiple versions of LRClassic (including at least 12.1 and 12.5).

I've build 1:1 previews for my images.  I'm in the library module, going through images fast in "loupe view" by rolling my mouse wheel, assigning star values as I go.

The problem/bug is that, if (for example) I start the process with photo #1 highlighted/rendered (both in the loupe view and in the film-roll below), and I start flipping through pictures...  for much of the time, only the loupe view is changing, and the film-roll view below isn't updating.  If I use the keyboard to assign a star rating during that ambiguous interval (again, different image highlighted in film-roll view and in the loupe view), the star i'm trying to assign to the loupe view image gets assigned instead to the image that's highlighted in the film-roll view!   In the end I can have scrolled through hundreds of pictures, thinking i'm assigning them star values while they're all really being assigned to one image (as the film-roll view is never updated if i'm scrolling fast).

I find this very counter-intuitive....  And probably a bug?  That didn't happen in much older versions of LR, if i recall right.

Can anyone comment on whether this is a bug?  Or how to work around it?  Pausing for the film-roll view to update is very cumbersome and error-prone, I've found.

Thanks!

I see the problem also, but not as severe as you describe. Using the mouse scroll wheel can apparently be too fast for LrC to select (highlight) the filmstrip image that matches the Loupe view image.

I instead use the keyboard arrow keys < > and the Filmstrip and Loupe image always stay immediately 'in sync'.

Is it a 'bug' or a symptom of a slow graphic card? I don't know.

Thanks, Rob.  Yes, I see that you're right that using the arrow keys, the behavior is very different.  In fact, I think it might be "reversed" in a sense: when using the arrow keys the loupe (very slightly) lags the filmstrip, while when using the mouse wheel the filmstrip (very significantly) lags the filmstrip.  Very odd.  And, more importantly, it's the filmstrip-selected image that is rated with the keystrokes.

As for whether the mouse-wheel behavior is a bug: it's at minimum pretty confusing.  I bet I've accidentally deleted a lot of keepers because of this issue!

Thanks again.

I'm having this same issue as well!  It's much faster for me to cull using the mouse wheel to scroll through images, but having to check if my rating applied to the correct image every time negates all the advantages!

I find that when setting a Flag or Star rating in the Library Grid or Loupe view, I can get through photos faster with 'Auto Advance' turned on. MENU: Photo > Auto Advance.  Or simply engage CapsLock on the keyboard (CapeLock toggles the option).

The result- eg. Press [P] image is Picked and selection auto advances to the next image. No mouse action needed.
