I'm trying to open an old catalog, and when accepted the prompt to update the catalog, I receive the message.... "Lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom"
I tried the advice in the "Adobe TechNote" prompt and it didn't help. And the only other options I'm granted are "Show in Finder" "Quit" or "Choose a Different Catalog"
I cannot choose a different Catalog, as this is the only one on this hard drive.
Any advice on how to proceed with updating the catalog?

Can you open the catalog without updating?

So, researching in google for "cannot update lightroom classic catalog". Appears to be lots of opions, and some metion of an Adobe site that provides info on recovery (no, I do not have a link )
One thing that came up is how much hard drive space is available on the hard drive the catalog is in?? Someone states at least 10 GB (I have no proof).
Another concept is to 0pen the catalog up in an older version of Lightroom. Turns out you can get that via the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Application, Go into the apps tab, scroll down to Lightroom Classic CC, click on the down arrow, select manage, other versions, and pick one.

Oh, and then optimize the catalog if you get it open.

Have you tried to create a new catalog, then import from a catalog?
