Have just updated to LR Classic and now the side panels continuously go black. Have never experienced this before. Looking at forum advice have switched modes, hidden LR, shut down etc and while all bring the panels back, after a few clicks they disappear again. Makes editing impossible. Processing on imac 10.11.6. Help?

According to Adobe, this is caused by a bug in MacOS 10.11 that was fixed in MacOS 10.12.4.  Adobe has tried to work around the problem in LR 6.10 / 2015.10 and later but has not been completely successful.

I scanned the bug report in the official Adobe feedback forum, and it appears that the problem mostly continues to happen only for those who haven't been able to upgrade to MacOS 10.12.4 or later.  (Some of the posts in the bug report for later versions appear to concern different bugs.)

I've been having this problem since updating to the new Classic. And it's getting worse and worse.

It has been reported to adobe many months ago, with no fix in sight. I'm getting the feeling that Adobe is stopping support for Classic and letting it die, forcing people to use the cloud version. I hope I am wrong. But I am looking around for alternatives to Lightroom.

The blackouts happen all the time, typically when I switch modules, but whatever. Every few minutes sometimes.

One workaround fix that I use that works for me: in the task bar (on mac), mouse over the Lightroom icon, hide Lightroom, then show. It works, but what a pita, and very frustrating that a tool I pay $10/month for has such a fundamental problem going unfixed for so many months now.

Likewise! Macintosh 10.11.6. Big bite out of productivity Please fix this soon!

Thanks to acharnas for the workaround fix, but as you know, it is only temporary. A permanent correction is needed ASAP.

This is impossible to use now and getting worse?

Has anyone gone back to an earlier version or to the original LR CC?

Black panels continue- in develop mode. Will be OK for a while, then go black at every develop click. Shut down, restart and hope for 5 or 10 minutes of performance, then it happens again. Very frustrating. Looking forward to an Adobe guru joining this discussion so we can get some clarity and hopefully work toward a solution.

Moving forward, if this is still happening to you, please add details of your symptoms and the exact versions of LR and MacOS to the bug report (do Help > System Info).  Be sure to click Me Too in the upper-right corner of the bug report.  You'll be notified of any changes in status by Adobe.  There's not much point in continuing the discussion in this thread, since Adobe product developers don't participate in this forum but do in the official feedback forum (containing the bug report).

Also, see this Help article for a workaround that's less inconvenient than restarting LR: Lightroom UI panels appearing black on macOS

With the Mac hardware I have, I cannot progress past OS 10.11.6. Thus I'm stuck with this blackout problem unless Apple addresses it, from what you are saying. Very disappointing.
