On previous Lightroom classic version i was able to just drag and drop my photos when importing to ctalogue , but after the update this option is not there for some reason . When attempting to drop photos , the Circle With A Slash Prohibition Symbol appears ,and nothing happens . Is there some option i have to know about ? Watched dnumerous videos on you tube , but no avail . By the way , photos are regula jpegs and dng files
Something obscure to check: In File Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic, right-click Lightroom.exe, and click on the Compatibility tab. Are any of the options checked? If so, post a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic). When Run This Program As An Administrator is checked, drag-and-drop can fail, it may fail for other options there as well.

I am not at home where I have LrC on my computer. So I can't be 100% sure about this. But, I think it should work if your Lightroom Classic screen is showing the Library Module. If it is not in the Library Module, I don't think it will work.

Works for me, dragging and dropping into the Grid of Lightroom Classic 12.4, Windows 11
What camera took these photos? Are they JPG or RAW or DNG (or something else)?
If possible, can you take a video of what you are doing and what happens? (Please post the video by clicking on the "Insert Video" icon).

"Works for me, dragging and dropping into the Grid"
Works in my LR 12.4 / Windows 11.
Make sure you're dragging it onto the actual Library grid. You'll get the circle-slash if you try to drop it elsewhere within the LR window.
See here for how to make a screen recording (don't use your phone):

Just want to point out that the movie is showing something different than the discussion. The discussion is about importing by dropping images into the Library module. But the movie shows dropping images into an already opened Import dialog box, which is different. Does dropping images into Lightroom Classic work when the Import dialog box is not open? Normally, if done that way, the Import dialog box opens automatically with the dropped images selectedā¦there is no need to open it first.
That said, it should work to drop it into the Import dialog box, so that still needs to be solved. Dropping into the Import dialog box works fine for me with Lightroom Classic 12.4 on both my Mac and in Windows 10.
One thing to try: Does it work for images stored in another folder, instead of the desktop, or is it not working regardless of where the images are stored?

Hi Conrad, and thanks for clarifying few aspects. Yes it does work when its in the storage folder , i just created random folder and added those very files ,and it imported with no issues , its' only when i want to drag and drop (my habbit) its not recognizing at all.

@Robertas5DE8 "it's only when i want to drag and drop (my habit) its not recognizing at all."
I don't think you answered Conrad's question. Rather than going to Import and then dragging the photos into the Import window, go to the Library module in Grid view and drag the photos into the grid. See the attached screen recording.

Negative . No joy
Drag and Drop option is not available at all for some reason , in neither of modules (Librbay, import ,develop etc.)
Thanks for the vid @johnrellis

Also, an alternative to drag-and-drop: Set LR as the primary app to use when opening files from File Explorer. Then to import photos, right-click one or more of them in File Explorer and do Open, which will open the photos in LR's Import window.
To set LR as the primary app to open, say, DNGs, in File Explorer right-click one DNG and do Open With. Scroll to the bottom and select Choose Another App. Select C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic\Lightroom.exe and click Always.
