Lightroom Classic 14.5 fails to open

Community Beginner ,
Aug 27, 2025 Aug 27, 2025

I have recently updated to Lightroom Classic version 15.5 and am having problems opening the app on my M3 Pro MacBook Pro, running MacOS 15.6.  When I first try to start a session it either fails to open and I have to force quit and try again, or takes a very long time to open.  When I do eventually get it to open if I close it down and reopen it does so with no problem. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling the app, but this makes no difference.

Hi @mikej4252593

Sorry to hear you’re running into this issue after updating. Could you please share your system info (you can copy-paste it from Lightroom: Help > System Info) and let us know if you see any error messages when it fails to open?

I would also suggest trying the steps in this troubleshooting guide, which covers common crash or freeze issues: https://adobe.ly/3JCUDGq

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Srishti

Hi Srishti

None of the steps in the troubleshooting guide seem appropriate as they all assume that Lightroom Classic is running, whereas my issue is getting it to open.

My system info is as follows. Hope this helps

Regards
Mike

Thanks.  I've updated to 14.5.1 and will see if that makes any difference.

The update to 14.5.1 has not solved my problem.  Thus is so frustrating.  Every time I start a new session for that day Lightroom Classic refuses to open and I have to Force Quit the app.  Having done that, when I next click to open the app everything is fine.  This doesn't seem to make any sense.

Once LR is running, try disabling the plugins. I had some issues with the Logi plugin for a while.

Failing that, have you tried uninstalling, followed by a re-install?

Yes, I thought about the plugins and have now disabled all, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if that solves the problem because, as I said, once Lightroom Classic is running I can close and reopen with no problem.  It is only when I start a Lightroom session for the day that this happens.

I have tried uninstall and reinstall, but it didn't help.

We're sorry that you continue to experience the same behavior. Try to reset the preferences of Lightroom using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/45VWZba

If the issue persists, try re-installing the application after removing it using the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool. You can check out the steps to use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool here: https://adobe.ly/45DLVAn

Let us know how it goes!
Thanks,
Nikunj

It seems that Lightroom Classic does sometimes load if I leave it long enough, but it takes a very long time.

I haven't yet tried the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool as it all looks rather complicated, especially using the Activity Monitor.

@mikej4252593  The usage of the Cleaner Tool isn't much complicated. Follow the steps in the "How to use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool" section of the linked document form @nikunj.m .

For usiing the Activity Monitor see here:

Quit an app or process in Activity Monitor on Mac - Apple Support (IN)
