Lightroom Classic CC Update missleading!!

Ther is a BIG problem with the way how ADOBE is promoting Lighroom Classic CC.

The Creative Cloud Updater states an UPDATE rather than an UPGRADE.

When you just do not look carefully you just overwrite your Lightroom 6.12 with Lightroom Classic CC.

Can you please cahnge this to UPGRADE or TRIAL and do not overwrite by default Lightroom 6.12.

I know you can find a tick box where you can tell to install it side by side but this is burried in the screen.

Not very nice!!!!!

Hi JoachimBraune,

The update for Lightroom classic CC is not applicable for Lightroom 6.12(recently released)

We are working on this to portray updates in a different way so that customers using both CC and Lr 6 apps might not get the "Trial" version due to this confusion.

Thanks,

Akash

Hi roverdublin,

Sorry about the confusion. We're looking into this issue.

If you have already updated to Classic CC, that made the app trial, Please uninstall the Lightroom CC Classic from the machine, restart your machine and use the below link to download & install Lightroom 6 and update it to 6.12 version.

Refer Download Photoshop Lightroom

Can you please provide a screenshot of the notification you received? I understand that you are a Lightroom 6 user and were confused that this was an update intended for you is that correct? If that is true, then show me what you received that made you think that.

As I have said in the Creative Cloud Updater under APPS the Lightrroom Classic was marked with UPDATE.

Unfortunately I did not take a picture then.

Here's the notification presented to LR 6 users:

Untitled picture.png

This is simply incorrect -- LR 7 (Classic) is not an "update" in Adobe's terminology, it is an "upgrade".  Updates are free, upgrades cost money.  This is causing significant confusion for LR 6 users, as evidenced in other threads here.

Here's the notification I received...

I installed Classic CC, migrated my catalog (BIG MISTAKE) and then started getting a 'Subscription Not Found' error.

After continuing to work and import new photos and edit in Classic CC in Trial mode until I got around to dealing with it I found out that it wasn't really an update. I now have no way of reverting my catalog back to LR6, thus losing all edits.

What  a pain in the %^*&.

Hey all, I downloaded Lr CC and Ps two days ago and in the list of available apps I have Lightroom Classic CC with the default option of "Install" (Lightroom CC was already installed) plus "More Info" and "Other Versions". No Update or Upgrade options. Now I'm glad I didn't install it immediately. I'm still a bit confused about this whole issue though. If my subscription doesn't include Lr Classic CC, why do I get "Install" as first option? Thanks in advance for any answers you can give me, just know that I'm a newbie and not very familiar with technicalities.

However, it IS listed as Lightroom Classic CC. And there has been an update for it already. There is also a notation that  it was formerly Lightroom CC.

If you do not own it and you do not have it it is not an UPDATE, isn't it?

I had assumed that Adobe had straightened that confusion out.

As far as I can tell, the only change they made was to uncheck the option "Remove old versions" by default when the user installs LR 7:

This ensures that the previous version of LR 6 or LR CC 2015 won't be removed.

Keep in mind, I have not installed Lightroom Classic CC

It should read TRIAL or even better UPGRADE and not UPDATE !!!

Agreed. The disabling of Remove Old Versions was just a palliative to ensure that once people who were fooled found out they were fooled, they at least could quickly revert back to their older version of LR.

You could post your feedback on the official Adobe feedback forum: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/categories/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightroom . Adobe product developers actively participate in that forum but not in this forum and they almost certainly won't see your feedback here.

I also fell foul of the "Update" trick, but have now managed to reinstall Lightroom 6.12

While resolving the problem and in answer to my question, "will Adobe continue to update this product beyond v6.12?" the helpdesk representative "Anubha" answered "No".

I now see that version 6.13 is available!

Adobe customer support has long been untrustworthy. Adobe has written publicly that after 6.13 there will be one more release (6.14), "towards the end of the year": Lightroom 6.13 now available

I'm really confused! I thought I bought a subscription for Lightroom Classic CC, but somehow I now see that I have a cloud link on my computer. I'm not sure if I have lightroom Classic CC or Lightroom CC. If I somehow am on a free trial, how do I go back to Lightroom Classic?

Along with Lightroom Classic CC (which is the upgrade of the Lightroom CC 2015 that you may be familiar with), there is a brand NEW Lightroom CC which is a cloud-based Lightroom that is a new version 1 software. It is completely different. It is a new concept, designed for those who want to download their images and have them instantly available on their computer and all mobile devices. So when you ask about Lightroom CC, it's important to clarify which program you are asking about.

Unfortunately I apparently should not have selected to do a Lightroom Classic update that was displayed in my Adobe "Control Center".  I would never have clicked that Update button had I known that it would apparently uninstall or delete my Lightroom 6 installation.  I suppose I'll have to download and reinstall the 6.x version in order to get this "newer" release off my system.  If it had indeed been an update (e.g. no additional cost), then I could understand.  Instead, Adobe deleted my old permanent Lightroom license when apparently installing a trial for something that will require annual payment for the reset of my life.  I guess I'll try to download and reinstall the perpetual license version and hope that none of my data is damaged in this debacle.  In a way, this is like one of those encryption viruses that installs on your system and then demands payment to let you continue to use your system.

What the ---- is going on? It says update! Tricking clients into buying your latest software. Are you based in Nigeria now?

I updated my LR and it deleted my old, put in a demand for money and gave me a week to try. There is a stark difference between update and upgrade!! This is so angering. So now what? I have to delete this and reinstall? If I find my original files and settings gone I'm going to be pissed. Fix that shit up fast, it looks really bad for Adobe.

It's unfortunate that you misunderstood. However, your images will not be gone because they are not "in" Lightroom, they are in folders on your computer. The catalog is still on your computer. Download and install Lightroom 6, then install the 6.14 update and you will be done. In the future you can ignore any updates because there won't be anymore. Also, all of your adjustments, that means all the work you have done, is in that catalog. So you shouldn't have lost any work.
