I am trying to edit an existing rename template for use in Lightroom in order to rename images as they are imported.  I am using the Library>Rename Photos dialogue to do this.  Once a pre-existing rename template is selected, I try to edit it and save as new template.  However, once I click into the text field and try to add text, the dialogue box closes unexpectedly allowing no changes to be made or saved.  Recently updated to MacOS15.0 Lightroom version 13.5.1

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Moderator- Question is related to Lightroom-Classic.

The procedure I would take is to create a totally new Rename Preset Template-

1) Press F2  or Library>Rename

2) In the [File Naming ] box select [Edit...]  (at the bottom of the list)

3) In the Filename Template Editor- select and delete any current rename preset

4) Build the new rename preset from the options

5) In the [File Naming ] box select [Save Current Settings as New Preset...]  (at the bottom of the list)

Or if you must modify an existing Preset-

1) Press F2  or Library>Rename

2) In the [File Naming ] box select the existing preset you want to modify

3) In the [File Naming ] box select [Edit...]  (at the bottom of the list)

4) Modify the preset from the options given (select, delete, add, etc)

5) In the [File Naming ] box select [Update Preset "as selected in #2" ...]  (at the bottom of the list)

Thank You.

I tried what you recommended but the dialogue won't stay open long enough
for me to do anything, maybe 2 or 3 seconds. I navigated to the location
where my templates were stored and deleted them through the finder then
went to the Lightroom preferences and restored all rename templates. I
then quit and restarted Lightroom and the same thing happened. Also
restarted the Mac and same.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Sorry it is 'no go' for you. I don't have a Mac so cannot be of much help.

I can only suggest-

FULL DISK ACCESS PERMISSION Could LrC be having trouble writing to the folder of presets?

Or, if not done already, try a Reset-  https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/reset-preferences.html

(Backup Preferences to enable a restore of your current Preferences before you do a reset)

Lightroom Classic 13.5.1 is not officially supported on MacOS 15, and this may be one of the things that does not work yet.
