I synchronize about 4 Tb of image files onto a portable drive once a week for off-site storage. I sync the files using FreeFileSync which compares the file's timestamp and size to determine which files have changed and must be copied to the portable drive. Lately the number of files that appear to have been changed is much larger than it should be and frequently includes files I have not touched for years. Today, for example, FreeFileSync indicated that over 1 Tb of files had been changed in the last week even though I had edited about 40 photos. I changed the criteria from timestamp plus size to file size only and got the same result, over 1 Tb of files appear to have been changed. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any idea what might cause the file size to change on a large number of image files? Thanks.
