Lightroom now uses (ALL) my memory and almost kills my system

Apr 28, 2022 Apr 28, 2022

Since the last update, Lightroom classic is using all my memory all of the time even when idle.  Even when that is the only thing open, it almost freezes my system.  I can't get anything done in Lightroom, Please help!!

I am on Windows 10 pro, 16GB of Ram, Core I7 with 4 cores, 8 logical processors.  It worked fine in the past.  What has changed?  It seems to be a bug where it is hung-up on something, or stuck in some processing loop and costantly flickers and feezes for several seconds over and over.  I have deleted lightroom all off the preferences, twice.  When I reinstall and restore my last backup, the probems remain.  My computer and all drivers are up to date.  I have ruled out any GPU or video card issues.  Any suggestions?

Hey, @joshgraff! Welcome to the Lightroom Classic community. I'll help you figure this out.

You can log in to Lightroom Web (https://adobe.ly/3uv2zCA) and look for the Sync Issues category near the Deleted section on the left part of the screen. If there are any Sync issues, check the file name, apply small edits or tags, and wait a while to check if the edits sync to the cloud.

Please ensure you have backups for the original images in the Sync issues section and clear them from the delete

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

@Sameer K That seems to have solved the problem (I deleted the photos that were causing the sync errors). Thanks for your clear directions; I encourage the adobe team to address this failure mode.

Also on my modern computer from a year ago from 2023 in the newest Lightroom 14.0.1 the RAM climbs up all the time, when Lightroom is on, even without photo editing, until the computer crashes.

Hey @Arnon de Shalit , sounds like this could be the same problem that I was facing. Check out the solution given by @Sameer K .

Stopping the connection to the cloud in Lightroom did not solve the problem for me.

When editing photos in any version of Lightroom Creative Cloud be it local or cloud files. The program will use more and more ram, untill there is none left and the system begins paging. therefore running tremendously slow.

(yes have spent many hours with the support team debugging and all the result can get is, "huh, this shouldn't do that")

I have had this problem for a while now. Using 99% of Memory all the time... can't seem to find any sync errors..

Hi, there is a new version out, 14.1, it might be worth trying to see if it fixes your issues: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/fixed-issues.html
