Greetings,

Bird and Nature photographer here. I used to spend lots of time looking up species of birds/flowers/etc so that i could find them easily later. But it would be quite the daunting task after a 1-2 week trip and thousands of photos to weed through.

Most keywording solutions I stumbled across are cloud based and were both slow and/or required credit purchases over a trial limit.  So I made my own.

It literally took a couple of years, but after training over ~40TB of data, I made a local (non-cloud) AI based keyworder. The downside of it being local is that it's MacOS only. But it also means:

  • It works without internet
  • Is blazing fast (~30 photos/second on a 2020 M1) because there's no upload or cloud traffic
  • IP/AI/Privacy safe because nothing leaves your computer
  • No cost (Cloud services, especially AI based ones are $$$)
  • It supports training for custom image -> keyword mappings

I also had a beta tester request support for diving photos, so it unqieuly (amongst photo id tools) supports id of over 6.8K oceanic species (fish, coral, nudibranchs, etc). It also supports all the other things I take photos of including birds, plants, mushrooms, insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians. There's non-nature support as well: travel landmarks, food, and high level catergory/style tags.

Here's a video of the Lightroom plugin in action:

The Lightroom plugin uses an API and is fully customizable. The plugin source and some scripting examples are available here:

Would appreciate any feedback.
