Hello
LR Classic won't open but appears in Task Manager (Win 10)
The hour glass appears for a few seconds but nothing else happens
If I look at file explorer I can see 2 files repeatedly opening and closing - 1 ending in shm and the other in wal
If I end task in task manager I am left with a .lock file which I understand might be part of the problem - but if I delete that I still can't launch LR
Would be grateful for some advice please
Rob

Hi there,
Welcome to the Adobe Community!
Looks like something else related to Lightroom is still running in background or in the startup which could be creating the problem here. Try end everything from Task Manager related to Lightroom Classic application and open the app and see if that helps.
If you are unable to anything specific, you can uninstall Lightroom, restart your machine and reinstall the app using the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop and check.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Mohit

You said 'let us know how it goes' - I did so several days ago and have heard nothing further - are you able to help or not please?

Hello,
In Task Manager, have you tried 'End task' in the Processes tab? If you force-close the program using End task, Lightroom should open again as normal.

I am still stuck with this problem - nothing works. Can anyone please suggest a solution OR does Adobe offer tech support and if so how do I contact them???
Many thanks

Contact Adobe. This via a Chat. Before doing so, prepare your notes and information ahead of time as to be more efficient in communicating. Your info that you have posted in your Discussion is a start for the description, and probably have a copy of your LrC /Help/System Info/ as a text document on hand, so that you can paste or attach that into the chat.
To accomplish the Chat, bring up an Adobe webpage, and click on the Chat button. (see image below) This will start a Chat. At first the Chat will be with a chatbot, Typing “Agent” into the chat text field will bypass the initial chatbot. If an agent does not enter the chat then be assertive in requesting an actual Adobe Tech join in the chat.
In the Chat include (as mentioned above) a description of the issue, and probably your System Info. And include a link to your discussion.
You may want to ask for a phone call.
And please keep notes so that you can share them in your post for others to see.
For example, bring up:
https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
and click on the Chat button, typically found in bottom right corner
