I shot only in raw (.arw) with my Sony a7iii and never had a problem with using denoise before - now, it says that this type of file is incompatible...what gives?
If I open a RAW image straight into PS, it opens first in RAW and Denoise is present and working.
By @dougbraz
OK, so that means AI Denoise is working in the Camera Raw code, nothing is blocking it at the system level. Lightroom Classic uses its own separate copy of the same code, so that would indicate something wrong with Lightroom Classic only.

Perhaps you set the camera to take downsized mRaw or sRaw photos.

No, I set the canera for uncompressed raw files only.

This is not the compression setting in your camera. It is downsizing (which is different from compression), and you need to check that setting in your camera to be sure the files are not the downsized mRaw or sRaw. mRaw and sRaw will have fewer megapixels than the sensor captures, and LrC AI Denoise cannot work with these. If the only thing you change is compression, the number of megapixels doesn't change, and LrC should be fine.

In my camera - ILCE-7M3 - I can choose compressed or uncompressed only. For JEPGs, sure, S/M/L, but I only shoot in Raw.
Anyway, updated today to LrC 13.4 and all is well, denoise works fine......smh....thanks for the help anyway!

That’s weird, and unexpected. I have .arw files from an A7c and AI Denoise still works for them in Lightroom Classic 13.4, macOS 14.5.
Just to cross-check…do you have Photoshop installed, and if you open one of the .arw files into Adobe Camera Raw through Photoshop (or Bridge), is AI Denoise available there? This is only to determine whether the AI Denoise problem is affecting Lightroom Classic only, or also Camera Raw, in case that helps troubleshoot.

Interesting...
If I open a RAW image straight into PS, it opens first in RAW and Denoise is present and working.
If I am in LrC, right click to open/edit the image in PS, it opens straight in PS and then I have to use filters to open Camera Raw and denoise in NOR available at all!
Any reason why this should be happening? Just updated LrC a few hours ago, so denoise now works there with RAW files.

That sounds normal and expected, because when an image is opened from Lightroom Classic into Photoshop, it’s converted from raw to a Photoshop document. If you then apply Camera Raw as a filter, there are two definite reasons AI Denoise does not work that way:
1) AI Denoise currently works on raw files only, so it would not be expected to work on what is now no longer raw and converted to a Photoshop document.
2) AI Denoise is not available in the Camera Raw Filter, only in Camera Raw when used as an import plug-in or a raw Smart Object layer.

Oh, does that mean the problem is now resolved in Lightroom Classic?

Yes thank you Conrad, all resolved - and now understood after reading your explanation.
Much appreciated!

was their a recent firmware update in the Sony?

not for the sony a7iii (ILCE-7M3) - just other newer models. Mine has version 4.01 which I understand to be the latest version.

Looks like that firmware update only fixed a battery level bug, not any additions to RAW formats. (thinking a new RAW format that is not supported in LrC DeNoise, that you may have accidentally used)
In the community, a member with a A7IV has an issue that may relate to the firmware.
In the firmware updates for your camera, I do not see that mod listed. So probably not the issue.
