I have read and tried to follow with no success the suggestions already posted.
I have 4843 photos in LRC and I will not be using them for books any more.
So how do I remove them all from LRC so I can start with a clean slate t to produce a new book.
I use a Desktop Mac.

This is what my screen looks like and I need to remove it all as I am so confused. Especially all of the photos along the bottom. I want to make another BLub book.

Just leave them there in the catalog, no need to delete anything. Add new photos to the catalog and work with the new photos. Use the many organizing features in LrC to keep the different sets of photos separate.
Are you implying that you will NEVER EVER EVER want to use these 4843 photos again? A photo in Book 1 will never be used in a future book, or never be used for other purposes and you will never want to see the edited versionof these photos again?

Thanks for your reply I will leave them in Catalo then. I have been making Blurb books of my photos from around the world. So probably on LRC I won't use them again. I'm nearly 80 trying to sort stuff out and forgetting how!!
Can I remove or condense the folders which take up so much room?
I have sorted out photos on my Mac I want to use for my next book but scared to bring them across into LRC and get them muddled with everything that is already here., any suggestions appreciated.
I do appreciate your advice thanks.

What I would do is create a collection with a name like "Book 1". Actually, you might want to use a more desciptive title. Put all the photos into this collection. New photos should go into another collection, which I would name "Book 2". Then as you are creating your next book, always start in the collection named "Book 2".

Just one last question how do I remove all of the photos along the bottom of the screen. The ones that I put on each page when I start the new book. These are all muddled from several previous book and I dont need them for a book again but they can stay in the Catalog at the top left.

The filmstrip at the bottom of the screen display the same photos as the grid above.
You can turn it off (and back on) by pressing F6.
All the panels in LrC can be shown/hidden using keyboard shortcuts.

You can also click these little arrows (or anywhere in the black area) to show/hide panels.

"from several previous book and I dont need them for a book again"
For a new book I think you will find that if you click on the [Clear Book] tab you will limit the photos on the filmstrip only to the Folder or Collection that you have selected for the book.
You can then run [Auto Layout] again if wanted.
But you MUST then click the [Create Saved Book] to create a special 'Book Collection' - You will ALWAYS then use this new book collection whenever you want to edit this saved book.
The problem of extra unwanted images appearing on the filmstrip has been a problem for some years.
quoted from an Adobe staff member- "Until you have created a "Saved Book Collection" the Book module does not 'know' what photos you want for the book so it pulls in all recent photos from books and folders. "
Note: That you can also use an 'empty' Saved Book Collection to which you add / drag only the photos you want in the book.

that is a great idea about the empty Saved Book Collection. I will start tomorrow and see how I go.
