Masking has 1+ stop exposure in Tone Panel

Lately when I open masking I find a one stop plus of exposure.  This means that the color overlay does not show until I zero out the exposure slider.  Damned annoying!  How do I reset to a default zero opening?

LRC 13.2 (Creative Cloud), Windows 11, Dell XPS 16.  Thanks
