I have seen a few discussions here on this topic but no solution. I am trying to move a folder from my hard drive to an external drive within lightroom. Some of the files move but others do not. If I try to move individually or as a batch I get the error "File can not be moved to this location".
Is there a fix for this error? Moving in the file system and then relocating in Lightroom will be extremely tedious.
thanks in advance for any input.

In my opinion, moving folders using your operating system is more reliable and really isn't that difficult. It's relatively simple to synchronize the folders again in Lightroom. Here is a good read that should help you understand the process:
Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
You might want to pay particular attention to "Part 2-Updating folder location".

I'm in favor of trying to figure out why this is happening, as it's otherwise very convenient to move files from within LR. Does it say anything more than "File cannot be moved to this location"? Identify one folder or file where this is happening. If you go out to FInder/Explorer and look where you were trying to move it to, is there already a copy of the file/folder there? Is the folder you are trying to put it into set to Read & Write under Permissions? (Right-click on the folder, Get Info on Mac, Properties on PC.) What happens if you go outside of LR and move it - do you get an error?

thanks for the questions. I looked further and somehow mid-transfer the disk switched from mac compatible system to Windows compatible and therefore is now reached only. Pretty strange and not sure how this happened or how to fix it. Perhaps I was trying to move too many files as well as access the disc from the file server. When I upgraded the operating system on my mac I had installed the paragon software that allowed me to read/write to the disc yet I have no idea how to change the disc without reformatting. I have decided to take the safest route and have ordered to replace the disc.
thanks again
