No photos found lightroom

New Here ,
Jul 07, 2024 Jul 07, 2024

Last week I did a photoshoot, and THOUGHT I'd imported photos to Lightroom. I then took some more photos, and added them to Lightroom a couple of days later (on the same SD card) I can see some of the first lot of images, and all of the second lot, but when I try and click on the images, it says 'no file found' and there's nothing there to edit etc. I've tried an tried to re-import them, and every single time I do, it I can see the name of the file, I click on it, and it says 'no photos found' occasionally I'll reinsert the disc, the photos will show up, then they start greying out and disappearing, and then the import icon greys out. The images are DEFINITELY still on the SD card. I'm so worried I'm not going to recover them, and the images were really important to the client. Please, please can anyone help with this? I even tried deleting the file when I reinsert the card, it says it's deleted, but when I insert the card again, it comes straight back up with the SD card name, but still no photos when I click on it. Thank you

If you imported via ADD from the camera card, the photos are still on the camera card and can be accessed only when the camera card is plugged into the card reader or the camera is plugged into a USB port of your  computer. When photos are on the camera card, you must import via COPY to the hard disk.

To fix the problem, copy (via your operating system) the photos to the computer's hard disk somewhere and then point Lightroom Classic to the new location (instructions). Importing will NOT solve this problem.

If these are really important photos, you did make backups of them, didn't you?

I can't view your (or anybody's) file attachments. Please use the "Insert Photos" icon to include screen captures in your messages.

That was an sd card, not a Cfexpress, correct?

Ok, that one pic apparently shows an SD card, as such, ADD should not be possible.

Last i image, The Import screen, triangle to left of SD card is solid, ,not dotted, indicating subfolders. And you did not select to show images in subfolders.

First image, does that indicate your MACOS Finder does not show any files or folders on the SD card?

Please make proper screenshots, not photos from your screen (https://support.apple.com/en-us/102646) and embed these in your message using this button IMG_2794.jpeg instead of attaching them. The photo of the import dialog only shows your card in 'Files', which suggests it is not an SD card but perhaps a CFExpress card, despite the icon on your desktop (I don't know what icon MacOS uses for CFExpress cards). CFExpress cards are seen by MacOS as external disks, and that is the problem here. You can import photos from an external disk by using 'ADD' at the top of the dialog. That means they are not copied to your hard disk, but remain on the card. As a result, these images will be 'missing' if the card is not mounted.

The solution is to move them after all, if you did not reformat the card in the meantime (your first screenshot makes me fear that you might have done that). Mount the card, look for the image folder on that card in the Lightroom folder panel, select the images and then drag and drop them into a folder on your internal hard disk (do all of that in Lightroom, not in the MacOS Finder). That will move them to your internal hard disk, so they'll be available when the card is not mounted. Alternatively (and a bit safer): Use MacOS Finder to copy the images from the card to a folder on your hard disk while Lightroom Classic is not running. Then remove the card, start Lightroom Classic and follow these instructions to 'relink' the images to the copies you just made: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-photos-missing-fix/

I have a similar issue.

The retouched photos are on my desktop in a folder called "output".

They are visible in Bridge, but not in lightroom.

I need to output these in several different sizes and formats, which is my primary use of Lightroom these days. This is really hindering my workflow, especially since my actions in bridge aren't working either. (They work in Photoshop, but I need to do batch processing.)

I'm using: LR 13.4, PS 25.9, on a Mac Book Pro running Sonoma 14.5. Bridge is 2023, I'll try to update that.

Here's a couple of screen shots.
