Not enough Memory?

Have been using LR Classic for a while on my MacBook Air, 2022 with M2 chip and 8 GB Memory.  273 Gb Storage available.

But - lately I have been getting a message when I have LR running in background:  "Your system has run out of application memory" and I need to close LR to run anything, such as Safari, Mail, etc.   It shows me the memory being used, and all are smallish Mb numbers, but LR Classic shows as 39 GB.  And it keeps getting larger - when I first looked it showed 39.10, then a few minutes later 30.700, then 39.78, then 39.81.

What's going on?

Thanks

Which version are you using? I'm on 13.5.1 and I get the same thing. It seems they have abondoned fixing the issue on 13 and have moved on to 14 but that requires me to update my computer system. Changing my computer system is certainly not worth doing since they have not made the last version stable. If I could convert my v13 catalog to v12 I would do it n a heart beat and go back. I have lost so much productivity dealing with these issues and its been embarassing having a client next to you to view images but you can't show them because the program weon't respond. This has been one of the worse versions I have ever used since it was created. It has certainly made me consider moving to Capture One now.

I'm on 14.01.    What else it is doing "wrong" is that it is NOT opening to the catalog I was using last.  Instead, it opens to an old catalog that hasn;t been used since 2013, and has no photos in it unless I plug in my external HD.  So I have to search each time for my current catalog, despite having it set to open the last used catalog.

Give this a try. In Lightroom Classic Menu:  Preferences > General > at the very top LEFT, "When Starting Use This Catalog" > choose the catalog you always want LrC to open.

YES - that's what I can't understand - I have done that each time I reopened LR, but then the next time it opens, it is still not opening to the Catalog I set.

Been using LR since it's beginning but really getting frustrated.  How much of a learning curve is there for Capture One? Can I see/edit what was done in LR using Capture one? Might be worth looking at it.

Regarding the correct catalog opening:

Rename your old 2013 catalog that keeps opening so LrC can't find it.
Locate the catalog you wish to open.
Hold down [Opt]+[Shift] while double-clicking on the yourcorrectcatalog.lrcat file. When prompted to overwrite the preferences, do so.

Closing LrC after it finishes opening and reopening should result in the correct catalog opening going forward.
