Print preview missing from Lightroom Classic 9.1 on Windows 10

In the last week I have finally (and reluctantly) moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I am using LR 9.1 with two Canon Pro 100 printers. I have noticed with some consternation that there no longer seems to be a Print Preview option in the Printer set up button and windows. This option allowed me to see how the print would be placed on the paper before committing to printing it. This capability has saved me from making printing errors a number of times, particularly when specifying non-standard print sizes.

Has anyone else noticed this lack of a Print Preview option which used to be there? If so, what gives? Is there a way I can get this back. By the way, I seem to be printing with a Windows 10 driver instead of a Canon driver now. Could this be the culprit, although I see that Canon does not offer a driver specifically for Windows 10 and the drivers on their website last updated in 2016.

Appreciate any thoughts or experience anyone might have on this issue.

Hi there,

The Print module shows you an image of the paper with a cell defined (black lined box) What you see on the screen is what will print. If the cell is empty, you will get a blank page printed. You need to select an image using the file strip or in the Library grid view before entering the Print module. The Selected image will appear in the cell outline. If there is no image in the cell(s), you may need to drag one from the film strip.

Regards,
Sahil

I'm using the Canon Pixma Pro 100 on Windows 10 with Lightroom Classic 9.1. I haven't noticed anything different or "missing" when compared to any previous version. I have been printing 4 x 6", 8 x 10", and 13 x 19" prints recently and have had no issues with any of them. Could you provide a screenshot illustrating the problem you are seeing?

First of all, I have had no issue in the past when printing from LR(Win10). This is the 1st time I have printed since 9.1 was downloaded. I have not made any changes to the printer (Epson 4800) since the last time I printed. I am trying to print a single image from LR but when I do, the first image in the folder comes up in the preview - not the one I selected. When I click on the image I want to print, nothing happens, the image does not change to what I selected. Checking the print que, It has ALL the prints from that folder set to print. I have checked all the printer settings and don’t ever recall anything like that to select. I also have it set to show the print before it goes to the printer, but now it won’t even do that. I also made sure that only one image was selected, not all of them.

In the film strip in the print module, do you have more than one image highlighted?

No, only the one image is selected. I checked this a couple of times and each time I only selected the one single image.

I have concluded that this is an issue with LR 9.1. I pulled up the 2 images that needed to print into ACR in PS last night and had no issue printing though the latest upgrade to PS. I'm on the photographers bundle subsrciption so they both get updated at the same time. What I noticed when I tried to select a single image (in LR 9.1) was that the 1st image in the folder is what showed up on the monitor (no mater what image I selected). Looking at the printer que, it was trying to load all the images from the folder so that may be a reason as to why no images (or a delay) were seen.

I posted my issue on another form and I think I was presented a solution. With my issue, I would get a preview but it was not the image I selected and when I tryed agagin and again, I SOMETIMES got an image but would be the first image in the folder. The solution was just above the filmstrip of images. In the Print module above the film strip, is a list to make a selection of either ALL Filmstrip Photos, or Selected Photos, or Flagged Photos. All.. was selected instead of Selected. Even though I had only selected one image, when I went to print, since All was selected, it tried to load ALL of the images to the printer and I suppose this delayed seeing the preview. When I changed the selection to Selected Photos, The one image I originally selected appeared in the preview. when I get home after work, I will test this out by selecting and making a print. I'm guessing that with the latest update 9.1, it defaulted to All Filmstrip Photos. I had never had to check this with previous updates, but as I mentioned, I check this out tonight.

LATEST

I am the original poster of this thread. The problem I described was solved by answering thru experimentation the question I posed near the end of the post. The problem was that my fresh installation of Win 10 was using its own drivers for the Canon 100 printers. Once I reinstalled the printers using the original Canon disk and drivers, all returned to the behavior I was familiar with under Win 7. Thanks very much to those who responded to my original post.
