Problem: Dropbox does not sync .db files from Lightroom Classic catalog.

Hi everyone,

I hope the collective knowledge here can help me.

Currently, I am having issues with syncing my catalog with Dropbox. I'm working with Adobe Lightroom Classic and Dropbox doesn't sync some .db files.

The problem occurs when I open my catalog stored in Dropbox.

I have been using Dropbox and Lightroom for years without any issues until Dropbox made the upgrade.

Now there is an "CloudStorage" folder in my Library.

In Finder, everything has a green checkmark, but at the top on the Dropbox symbol, a red number appears, indicating that previews.db and root-pixels.db cannot be synced.

The only way I can synchronize the files without any issues is by moving them from Dropbox to my desktop, editing them there, exiting Lightroom, and then moving them back to Dropbox. With this approach, I don’t get any error messages regarding the .db files.

Here are some details about my equipment:

iMac 27 inch 2019

macOS Sonoma 14.5

Adobe Lightroom Classic

Version 13.4 Camera Raw 16.4

Dropbox 202.4.5551

Anyone experiencing something similar? Thanks for your feedback - I hope someone solved the problem.

Best regards, Carina

Hey, @Carina38375682vjia. Welcome to the Lightroom Classic Community. I'll clarify this for you.

Lightroom Classic & Dropbox don't get along sometimes. This is expected to happen as Lightroom Classic works through a collection of Catalog & supporting databases.

You must pause Dropbox syncing while you're using Lightroom Classic & enable sync again once you're done with Lightroom Classic for this session.

Here is a slightly different question about this where I've explained the reason why: https://adobe.ly/3zxEtZX

Let me know if this helps.
