"Edit In" menu greyed out in Lightroom after recent update

Hope someone can help because the most recent discussion of this issue was last December. Problem: Yesterday I was able to edit across Lightroom, Photoshop, and the Nik Collection, specifically ColorEFX Pro. Today I am not able to use my preferred workflow, even after updating LR, PS, and Bridge. I've tried opening PS first, then opening LR, but to no avail. I'm on a iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), using macOS High Sierra.

First obvious question you will probably instantly dismiss,

You do have an image  selected?

Resetting Preferences did not work... "Edit In" remains greyed out.

Are you sure the original image is available? If you use smart previews, then a 'missing image' is not so obvious because you won't see the notorious exclamation point. You can't send a smart preview from Lightroom to Photoshop, however.
