I want to create a keyboard shortcut. From LR Classic I open files as smart objects in photoshop quite a bit. I want to make a keyboard shortcut like the command E shortcut so I don't have to go to the right click>edit in>open as smart object all the time...I want one click option for this task...please help!!

Not possible. There is no interface, options, to customize, change, keyboard shortcuts in LR.

If this featrue so important for you you can post it in the feature request forum.

If there is a lot of response for this it can be that Adobe implement this in one of the future releases.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 24H2 -- LR-Classic 14 - Photoshop 26 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz PhotoAI 4

Your are not the only one.

But when LR was first being designed the focus was on making a computer program that mimicked something similar to a film negative/slide light table and allowed the editing of digital negatives, RAW files (whether they were from a digital camera or film based scans). Keeping with that it was supposed to be very streamlined which didn't allow the customization of the built in keyboard shortcuts.

On Mac, it's easy to define a shortcut for the menu command Photo > Edit In > Open As Smart Object in Photoshop, using the Mac's System Preferences: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/custom-keyboard-shortcuts/

On Windows, you'll have to use a third-party utility like the free AutoHotkey, which is very flexible but moderately annoying to configure.
