Hello, everyone,

I have been experiencing this problem for a long time, which causes me a heavy workflow slowdown.
My setup is as follows
macbook m1 pro 16gb ram, mac os Sonoma 14.5, apple studio display, and the files are nikon z8 48mpx.
The files and the catalogue are ONLY on an ssd storage, I normally ask lightroom to convert raw files to dng and generate standard or advanced previews (nothing changes between the two in terms of loading time).
Each time to make the selections I have to wait 2 to 4 seconds for the previews to load, and when I have about 5000 files to select from you can imagine that the loss of time is a lot.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you very much!

First resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic:   https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/preference-file-and-other-file-locations.html

What has been changed on your system before the problem occure?

Is your system up-to-date?

What happened if you deactivate the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences? If no, goto Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor".  Then restart Lightroom.

Another try is to create a new catalog and import several images. Then check if the issue has gone.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 -- LR-Classic 14 - Photoshop 26 - Nik Collection 7 - PureRAW 4 - Topaz PhotoAI 3

Hi Alex, thank you for your help

Yes, my system is updated

The problem remained the same also with my old setup (imac i7 4.2 ghz 38gb ram),

I tried to reset the preferences, create a new catalogue, deactivate the GPU (it goes slower) but nothing changes

macbook m1 pro 16gb ram

so 16GB of unified memory, and unfortunately no way to improve that.

Not sure that if you turn OFF the use of GPU in LrC /Preferences/Performance/ if anything may improve.

Remember that unified memory is used for CPU and GPU, might be more efficient than separate RAM and VRAM, but is it enough? (despite the limited info in the Adobe LrC system requirements page, that does not appear to address unified memory)

Each time to make the selections I have to wait 2 to 4 seconds for the previews to load

Are your preview issues in the Library module, or in the Develop module?

and, no, I am not sure my inquiry is leading to something, might be just a hunch, and hunches can be......

Inquiry, assuming the slowness is in the Develop Module, what do you have in LrC /preferences/Performance/ for Camera RAW? The default 5 GB? (hope not)

Hi GoldingD

The problem remained the same also with my old setup (imac i7 4.2 ghz 38gb ram), maybe it's not a problem related with ram

The issue happen in both modules (library and develop)

I preferences I setted up 10gb for camera raw
