Start-up Lightroom very slow

Since a couple of days my Lightroom starts up very slow. I optimized my catalogue and checked memory en hard drives on the pc (windows 11). When sending pictures to Photoshop it takes minutes to open PS (taking a lot of time on checking memory and loading preferences). If I open Photoshop on it's own (when LR is not running) it opens in a few seconds. So the bug must be inside Lightroom. This started on the previous version, I had an update this morning. It seems to be a tiny bit faster than yesterday. Any idea what may cause this?

It's beyond me the how and when on this, but as of today Lightroom CC and Photoshop work together as they should. I did remove all plugins, including old ones I never use. Maybe that helped somewhat.

I did a lot of testing and trying, even removed and re-installed Photoshop, Photoshop Beta and Lightroom Classic. Indepent from eachother, all 3 programs get launched as normal (well, lightroom a tiny bit slower). When Lightroom is running, both Photo versions are launching very slow (minutes...). The same when sending a picture from LRC to PS. I can't think of something I could do about, I'm a the end of my knowledge and possibillities.

Please install 14.1 (released today) and see if the issue has changed. Thanks.

I'm on automated updates, so I have the updates as they roll out.

No change to be seen with my problem 😞

my Lightroom starts up very slow.

Ok, you appear to have two issues, LrC starting slow, and Edit In PS slow to open PS from LrC.

Looking at LrC slow to start.

What part of starting LrC is slow, is it:

  • Getting pass the splash screen, ending with "Reading preferences" Is that last bit slow?
  • 11.png

After the splash screen, slow to bring up the appropriate Module?

After a few restarts and testing it appears now that
- Lightroom Classic starts up normal (without the splashscreen) in 2 or 3 seconds. That's ok.

- Sending a picture to Photoshop or Photoshop Beta takes at least 4 minutes
the splashscreen appears and some things are loaded.
It looks like checking memory takes a lot of time (about a minute or more)
After that it's universal expansion initialising (free translate) that sort of 'hangs'
When I try to open Photoshop on it's own AND lightroom is active, the same happens.
During this 'hanging' of freezing, the rest of the pc seems to unaccessible (can't open a browser eg.)

So on to PS stall

When I try to open Photoshop on it's own AND lightroom is active, the same happens.

Ok, what occurs (time wise) in the following different workflows

1. An abnormal workflow (starting PS first) that might get around the issue:

  • LrC not started
  • PS not started
  • Start PS
  • Start LrC
  • In LrC, Edit in PS

2. A common workaround (Starting PS instead of letting LrC open it) when PS will not load properly via LrC Edit in PS:

  • LrC not started
  • PS not started
  • Start LrC
  • Start PS
  • In LrC, Edit in PS

3. The normal procedure:

  • LrC not started
  • PS not started
  • Start LrC
  • In LrC, Edit in PS

LrC not started PS not started

Start PS Start LrC In LrC, Edit in PS

So far, this is the only workaround that helps a bit. But there is still a big problem.

I start PS first, that goes in a couple of seconds.

Then I start Lightroom Classic, also very fast

Then I send a picture from LrC to PS - it opens immediately but the cursor remains a spinning series of dots that is frozen (so it is not spinning). I wait for 5 minutes but nothing happens. Then I close LrC and after a couple of seconds the cursor turns into normal and I can edit the picture.

So it looks to me that LrC is preventing the normal workflow. No errors pop up and in the taskmanager there is no unusual activity to be seen.
